I'll be shocked if England don't win. Superb work on the first day from the Poms. Australia - rubbish - it's hard to win if you can't bat, or field, or catch...

...or bowl!

I've been shocked just how bad the Aussies have been when bowling this series. Compared to McGrath, Warne, Lee etc, the English batsmen must look forward to facing the current attack.

Unless the weather does you a favour, it's looking good for England to go one up.

Hard to disagree with that assessment, Tim.

Sharky, spot on about the bowling. It was a concern of mine before the series began, I thought we might struggle to bowl England out enough times, but I didn't expect it to be quite so bad!

Losing Clarke at the death may be the final nail in the coffin - tough to bat through the final day now.

Yeah, that was not what we needed. At least it wasn't Hussey though...

All over bar the crying now - 77 behind with one wicket left as I type this.

Edit - and done, huge win for England - literally and figuratively. Innings and 71 runs in the end, and that was with a declaration after losing just 5 wickets. Big advantage in the series and a lot of work for the Australian bowlers in the next week.

Utter capitulation this morning. Well done to England, a thoroughly-deserved win.

Hard to see where Australia go from here. It is becoming even more apparent (to me at least) that having greats like Warne and McGrath in the team for years was covering up for clueless leadership and clueless selections.

:yeahthat I agree with you there Otto, and that's a very very rare thing to ever say about your guys. A total lack of bowling penetration makes it very hard to see where they'll go next.

However as a "pom" I've got to say a seriously well down to our guys.

On a related note, did anyone else see that Ian Botham and Ian Chappell squared up to one another in the Adelaide car park? Hilarious! They've hated each other for over 30 years and apparently Chappell made some comment, and Beefy dropped his bags and was squaring up to him. Sorry to the Aussie guys here, but I'd have to back Beefy over Chappell if it came to fisty-cuffs!

The Sydney Morning Herald makes for very pleasant reading this morning (Well, for an Pom )!!! :nana: :nana: . Current poll is 65% for Ricky Ponting as wrong choice as captain. Talk of Warnie making a comeback and Mc Grath back to strengthen the batting lineup  . Just seems a pity the Perth game's is not another back to back one........

Where are you sharky? I thought you would have taken this golden opportunity to stick it to us :poke:

Based on that performance, if England weren't confident prior to the 2nd test, they'll be feeling invincible now. The Australians really have fallen a long long way from the heights of several years ago. Wow. Congratulations to england, it's clearly your time now. Solid bowling, batting and fielding.

I don't like Peterson though. Good player but a massive ego, not a fan.

I hope they get rid of north for the 3rd test and find some passion in their performance. Perth will play a little more difficultly than Adelaide.

I'll let Shane Warne (commentating on Sky) explain... "Unlike New Zealand, the English are good winners. They don't crow about it." True, I'm very happy just to sit here with a smug grin on my face whist the Aussie press/nation goes into meltdown!

Btw, Warne was dismissive of a comeback when asked (on day 2 or 3 rather than after the match). His comment was along the lines of "I'm OK for 4 overs in an IPL game but at 42, I couldn't bowl all day in a test." That he's still a viable option for a spinner is a sad reflection of the state of youth development.

100% in agreement with you about Pietersen. The guy lacks humility. At least his performances are matching his ego so far this series which makes a change.

The bring back Shane Warne campaign is under way and already up to 4,400 dollars. I'm not sure how long that would keep him in burgers, pies & beer.........Maybe a couple of days

http://bringbackwarne.com

It looks as though Hughes will be back at the WACA along with the three pie throwers, Johnson, Hilfenhaus, & Nathan Hauritz, who seems to be in better form with the bat than the ball. Hurry up next week, i can't wait !!!

Now Australia have selected a left arm spinner called Beer (at least it fits our country!) who has played 5 first class games with an average of 39! Hauritz has 70 odd test wickets at 34!

When will the selectors learn that you pick your five best bowlers, regardless of bowling style? There's no point including a spinner who's crap just because "we need one". For years they didn't include Stuart Clarke because he was "too much like Glenn McGrath".

Having said that, now beer will go out an take a 5 for and I'll have egg on my face.
