Looking out my windows on the east side of Manhattan (I decided to stay instead of heading north...or east where I would have had to get a hotel room....I have a great view on all four directions of the compass rose), all is earily calm. Winds whipping and everything closed...almost everything, that is. Pubs and bars have remained open (not all, but more than enough!) and there is a strange calm amongst those of us who stayed. Dare I say a sense of community? I am heading out with some of the younger members of my building for a pub crawl, wearing my mac, wellies and my yellow Ti SeaWolf on rubber strap! Let's hope for the best!

Enjoy the storm - stay safe! We just left our home on the CT shore. Not worth risking it with our two young kids. But I would have liked to have seen it.

So far, I wouldn't know it's a hurricane if nobody told me. Just some rain and wind.

Depending on where you live in VA Beach, it's either doom and gloom or just a bad rain storm... Still had to evac though with a small child.

On the must-pack list: entire watch collection and new watch winder/display case the wife got me for our anniversary.

Getting pretty bad here in NJ even though the center of the storm hasn't reached us. Power is out already.

The center of Irene is almost here in Manhattan as of 6:30 am Sunday. Still have power. I must say, it is odd not seeing buses or many taxis...not hearing the subway when I am at street level.

I DID watch a bucnh of crazy youngsters playing very wet street hockey on BROADWAY last night (in Times Square)! It looks as if flooding will be the major issue from all of this. Time to brew some lattes and toast the bagles purchased yesterday....H&H, gotta love 'em!
