at 40 bucks an ounce...

Told myself that at $40 I'm out but it seems I'm getting another chance to cash out big... anyone else in on this? I recollect there were also a few members who were involved in silver... Gold is already at $1600 in 31 years and silver's high I believe is at 50 bucks too...

everyone is talking about correction in the gold market and that everyone could move onto silver... any thoughts?

I was going to cash out my loose change (actually quite a lot) and put it towards a new watch...

So that means maxing out the plastic too a few days before the banks know what hit them...

@RJ: I have a jeweler friend that sold a lot of his "old silver", you know like past design rings, earrings etc... had a whole large sized zip lock bag of them and got 4k for all of it... he's probably got some connections downtown... my silver is in the form of US dimes and quarters... did pretty well with ebay a few months back as I sold some rolls as a feel for the market... don't know what kind of silver you have but I can ask for you... I did notice though that people that buy gold also do buy the silver too... but don't know what their cut is...

If you are going to sell it sell it on Ebay, you will get every bit of 90% spot. Those Shops that advertise buying silver ,and gold are nothing but crooks!!!! I have about a 100 grams of 14kt gold I am hanging onto. I am for-seeing another depression coming. The dollar is already worthless ,and will continue to dwindle.

Definitely agree Mac... now the dilemma is will silver make another run near $50 or perhaps even higher than that... I'm actually preparing to sell... gonna take some pics tomorrow...

If the depression does hit, at least I'll be happy with a new piece on my wrist... :strummin:

Not a big fan of this type of hard asset for investment. Part of that is because I am not in the US so the run up in value is offset by the relative collapse of the US$ against other currencies which brings the real rate of return to far less spectacular levels. It really comes down to what else you are going to do with the money - if it's for spending then that's a different argument but if you are switching to another investment then consider yields / likely rates of return over your investment horizon.

Metals are in part a safe haven investment that will lose some of their appeal in an economic recovery so while their may still be some upside there if you are moving into stocks then you may be better to move when that market is fairly depressed - especially if you are buying dividend payers.

There was a update on Yahoo market page on this very topic. Here is the link (hope this is ok mods)

Selling your bullion on ebay has the best return. I see US Silver Eagels (1oz)regularly sell for double the current price for 1oz of silver. Also remember coins contain 90% silver. Bullion is 99.9%.

Actually didn't invest any money at all... my mother has owned a convenience store for almost 30 years and it's a BUNCH of silver US pre-64 dimes and quarters accumulated over the years... it's fun when the customers hand you change and you can actually hear the difference when the change is jingling...

just trying to maximize my "free profits" I guess... but in terms of re-investing this, probably not... got some coin stashed elsewhere for awhile so I'm content with that for now...
