This rather embarrassing indecent happened when one of Obama's limousines was leaving the US embassy in Dublin on his recent visit to Ireland. Thankfully he was not on board when it happened. I read it took 3 hours to free the car and I wondered why so. Well it weights 15 tons and is only capable of 60mph !!!!

Truly great visit, along with the Queen's historic visit last week BTW. Great week for Ireland all in all and happy that both said trip's were a outstanding sucess....

Some more info on the beast...

Yea that limo definitely has some amazing features...most of which are highly classified. I was reading recently that the glass is ballistic glass between 5-8 inches thick and the car has a self contained air circulating system to protect against a chemical attack. I'm sure there are tons of other features that we'll never know about.

If you think that is cool, google Air Force One, that's the plane that the US President travels on. That's an incredible piece of machinery.

Actually, if I may, it's not Obama's car but the US President's car.

And I cannot resist from pointing out the BMW 750iL High Security that was preceding the President's car.

Surely the Caddie must have more features but I spent nearly an hour at the last Geneva Motor Show and the guy from the High Security Vehicles division explained the car and its features to me. Very interesting stuff indeed.

The vehicle as a whole complies with the requirements for class VR7 ballistic protection while the non-transparent area and many parts of the transparent area comply with the requirements for class VR9 ballistic protection. By using a special manufacturing process, BMW has been able to reduce the number of separate armour components needed by around 20 per cent. The armour plates are made from an incredibly strong special steel and fit the bodywork of the car like a second skin.

Other features include, highly sensitive temperature sensors which automatically activate the fire extinguisher system when needed. Another sensor monitors air composition – once a certain level of tear gas is registered, the interior protection facility is activated and the emergency fresh-air system ensures a temporary supply of breathable air to the occupants (O2 tanks in the trunk). Emergency exit via the front windscreen (only possible way out if the occupants have blocked the doors) has been further optimized.

Full metal jacket and armour-piercing, rigid core ammunition, explosives and hand grenades are among threats that the BMW 7 Series High Security is programmed to withstand. The edges of the doors, the places where windows meet frames and the joins between body panels are obviously the most vulnerable parts of the vehicle, so particular reinforcements are incorporated in all these areas. Special composite glazing is used for the side windows. Customers can choose whether or not these can be opened.

Furthermore, High Security vehicles can be serviced only at a handful of dealers because of all these special features and of others that he had not the liberty of revealing to me.

Point of calling OP Obamas car is that it was commissioned under his presidency. 09 I think.

The limo that got stuck was the 2005 model, not the newest 2009 model. So if you really want to get technical, it was Bush's car.

Take another look. I think it is not the 05 model. Its the 09 version. Check the wiki link it shows pics of boths cars.

I did. The Wikipedia article you linked to even says it: "On 23 May 2011, the 2005 model presidential state car was involved in an incident when it got stuck on a ramp as it exited the U.S. Embassy, Dublin, Ireland, during an official visit by President Obama."

This picture of the 2009 inauguration shows the new limo flanked by the older models. Watching the video of the breakdown, you can clearly see it is the older model: the grill is definitely the more ornate style of the 2005 model. Also, check the tires: the car that broke down has whitewall tires, as does the 2005 model. The '09 model's tires are solid black.
