Sweet! Congrats on your new direction thomasenlow1. I echo everyone's thoughts, you won't be disappointed with BMW, especially the 335is. Actually, you'll have a hard time going back to anything else, if you ever decide thats what you want to do. What kind of deal can you get though, in Canada this model retails for around $60k

Well I should say that as of now it is only that....a direction, but once I set my sites on wanting something it has to be mine. As Tomcat said, the Euro Delivery offers pretty big savings to US customers. I beleive 7% of the final negotiated price if I understand correctly.

I am thinking that I want the base model with manual tranny, mostlyto keep the price down, but also to minimize troubles in the future with all the bells and whistles. All in the base MSRP for a Euro Delivery model is about $46-47K. Still expensive, but the 7% discount brings itdown to the price of a standard 335i. Not too shabby in my book.

Enough about price though....this car is IMO the perfect blend of sporty and daily driver. Not too aggresive, but enough under the hood to know what you have. PLus that exhaust is just a symphony.

Ahh, that it is my friend. No comparison with a diesel.

As for the discount, I think that it must be more than 7% but don't have the exact figures with me.

I've been hearing this argument for years from people trying to sell me 'manumatics' - whether it's sequential shifter or flappy paddle it's just an automatic with options - it's not even close to a manual.

As I said, technically, you maybe wrong but you're actually right.

What I don't like, however, is that BMW is forcing the hand of its clients: it's that and if you don't like it too bad for you. They made the same mistake with the run-flat tires which are totally undrivable, even though they now give a choice for that. Given their commercial success they tend to take up rights that don't belong to them. IMO, you ALWAYS have to, at least, listen to what the customer has to say. And BMW actually doesn't.

I first intended this post as a poll ending May 10 but I modified it a bit because I thought that, even though not many vote anymore, the interest it has generated justified the mod.

The results of the poll show what I already knew before starting this thread. The vast majority of us will miss the BMW Big Six engines. Of course, not without reason, especially for those that have driven (or still drive) BMWs with the famous inline 6 because they enjoy the unique silkiness of that engine every day. Once you've tried that, there is no going back.

And, I'm saying that I knew what the result would be because, for the last 18 months I've been among you, I have found out that most members here are "old game", conservative and nostalgic of things bygone. Am I wrong or am I right?
