Post subject:  My new Breiting Chronomatic!

As I mentioned in my introduction I took delivery yesterday of a new Breitling!

Well ......I finally managed to pick up one of my all time favourites. :lingsrock: :D

Pure chance, as I spotted it lying at the back of an AD's display window last month!    :-p:-p So after negotiating a suitable discount, free strap and some other "bits and bobs", I have become the proud owner of a Chronomatic 24H LE. It was a limited run of 1000 pieces in 2006, I think there may be some stock dotted around elsewhere, but its getting thin on the ground.

A tad under 44mm ex crown, it has a lowish profile at 13 mm, as a consequence it wears more like a 42/43mm, flat to the wrist and the bracelet is a superb piece of engineering and extremely comfortable!

The 24hr dial is not to everyones taste, but you get used to it, and its quite a talking point. Throw in a flyback operation on the Chrono, date at 6 o'clock and you have a very accomplished and distinct time piece with a timeless appeal ..... I may have to add a few more Chronomatics to the collection - I love them.

Managed to grab a couple of decent photos which I thought I'd share.

Great watch!

Now that Breitling have turned their back on tradition and only produce a right hand crown Chrono-matic (happy 40th birthday!) these are inevitably going to become more collectable. I don't know why this LE hasn't sold out long before now, it's a stunning piece, though I guess the history is of less appeal to some people who have come to the brand through the Aeromarine range.

There was also a LE of 250 with blue dials for the Italian market that a couple of members here have. Very nice pick up!

sometimes it pays to be left handed.

Very nice, well done on picking it up. Wish there was one sitting in an AD near me!

He's a beauty! I do like the "proper" (i.e. left-hand crown) Chrono-matics. Nice pick up, sir!

I absolutely love that watch.

I've developed a soft spot for the 24hr dials just lately.

D8 - i've got my eye on yours ;)

Sorry guys, but I have a dumb question:

Why is the 24 at the 6 o'clock postition, and 12 at the 12 o'clock position? The cosmonaute is a 24 hour clock, and 24 is at the 12 position. I can understand the cosmonaute, but not this.

As far as I know it is just a design thing. I don't think there is any conspiracy behind it :D. I hope not.
I have a Chrono-matic 24 and a Cosmo and I find the Chrono-matic 24 much easier to read with the 12:00 at the top and the 24 at the bottom. Seems to just make sense with high noon at 12:00 and midnight at 6:00, just the way God intended it.

My feelings exactly, not sure theres a right or wrong, for me it just feels more natural to watch the day light hours pass by in the top half of the dial, and another reason why I like this piece so much.

Thanks for all the comments guys - I think my next Breitling will come from the following list: Blackbird, Aerospace, B01, or a the LE chronomatic from 2004.

Cheers,

Stephen
