Can anybody help here. I have purchased a brand new Evolution, just 2 weeks ago and after the first week I noticed when I got it out of the winder that it had lost 4 hours in just a week and 2 days, so last weekend I set it up again to the correct time, thinking the first time it could have me unknowingly altering the time when I pushed the crown back in. I checked the time again this morning and it has lost another 3 hours in just 5 days. The twin winder is brand new and works well, in fact the Omega PO I brought at the same time is keeping perfect time.

Has any one here experienced anything like this before with a Breitling or any watch for that matter. I will take it back to my AD tomororrow but they want to send it back to Breitling for tests.
My concern is that this a Bum watch and do not want it taken apart and tinkered with. Am I entitled to a new watch under these circumstances. all your advise will be very welcome indeed. :(

I think that the first thing that your AD needs to do is time it. I can't imagine that the winder is the problem, but putting it on a timing machine will confirm.

If it's losing that much then it will be a service issue - you can't regulate that kind of difference without disassembly of the escapement.

In terms of replaceing, technically under the terms of the warranty you aren't entitled to a replacement, but in this economy I would be pushing the AD to replace it.

I wonder though if you have the winder set up properly. If it does not allow for seperate programs and you have it set for the Omega, the Chronomat will run down. The Omega requires winding in both directions at 650-800 tpd and the Chronomat CW at 800 tpd.

Just a thought :D

Hi Br459.

The winder has seperate functions for each drum so both watches can run independantly. both drums are on a TIMED programme which basically means they run for a 2 hours then stop for 30 mins then go into reverse for another 2 hours etc. is this winder not going to be suitable for a Breitling wqtch/

The Chronomat should not be on the "reverse" cycle. By doing so, assuming the winder is providing the full required 800 tpd, it is only providing half of the tpd required. The Chronomat needs to be on CW only.

But a winder won't cause it to lose time. It may not wind the watch if set up incorrectly, but that will cause it to stop.

I was thinking since the time loss is so great (hours) that the watch is probably actually stopping and then when the winder starts again, it's winding enough to restart and run a bit longer. :huh

Ok..... What I've done now is set the watch back up again, set its time correctly. It seemed to be out 12 hours ....Am not Pm as it should have been this time of day in England, which is really scary. plus the 3 hours it was slow.
I put the winder winder on constant to give more charge, this means the watch is turning for 1 minute. it then stops for 1 minute then reverses for 1 minute etc etc the actaul revolutions the drum makes in a minute is 4. I have actually timed all the above times. any other ideas if this might work. The watch definately has not stopped during the time I have had it, at least I am pretty sure it hasn't.

Alpha why don't you wind the watch up and wear it this weekend and see if it looses any time. It may or may not be the winder. I don't think the winder setting that you have allows the mainspring to function in a normal fashion so I would be leary of this setting.
Why not wear it this weekend, see how it does and on Monday if still slow then off to the AD as Roff suggested. :D

I had the same experience with my cockpit, my AD, who is also a certified Breitling service center took it in and I had it back the next day, now it is more or less on the money every day!
This is the most accurate mechanical watch I have ever owned!

Thats what I was gonna say. And if you cant wear it, just manually wind the crown every day and see how accurate it is. Step #1 has to be to take the winder out of the equation.

Hi Ian, Spartan and RJR,

I thinks a good idea, taking the winder out of the equation, that will prove it is the watch one way or another.

if it is the watch and being only 2 weeks old, how would you guys play it as for a new watch replacement or sending it back to Breitling, which I really don't want to do.
Any thoughts on where I stand ?

Just tell them how you feel. Its only 2 weeks old and you dont want to sent it away for a few weeks. Ask for a new one. Sometimes they will, sometimes they wont. You are within a 30 day window, so its certainly not crazy to ask. Worst case scenario would be to send it away, but at least theyll get it sorted for you.

you could email breitling uk and explain to them what the problem is and that you don't want to send it back, they may be able to help, they are usually very good with customers and they don't particularly like anything giving them a bad name so they will allways try to resolve an issue. :guns:
