As some of you may know, I have ben saving up for my first Breitling for a few months now. At first I was doing good. I was at about 35% of the way there. Due to various reasons wich I won't indulge here, I have not saved nearly as much as I had anticipated. Don't get me wrong, the Breitling will be mine. Just not very soon. I have sworn to myself NOT to use the credit cards.

Things I have sacrificed to fud my watch
-no eating out
-no new clothing
-no movies, rentals, etc.
-no buying brand name foods (I love Scooters, Walmart's answer to Honey Nut Cherrios)
-no convenience shopping (7-11, WaWa)

I don't have as much money as some people on here and I'm totally fine with that. I'm young and have a while to accumulate more disposable income. We all have one thing in common and that is our love and appreciation for a well-made and beautifull timepiece. I foresee myself with the watch I want in August, maybe September.

Thanks for letting me rant a little. You guys have ben great. The gallery keeps me motivated and the smart, sometimes heated, sometimes silly discusions are always a pleasure to read and reply to.

I had to save up too....and yes, that day you get that watch is so sweet! And really, considering how long you could have the watch....waiting a few months more is painful....but you can do it!

I guess there's a perception that I can buy what I want when I want, but that doesn't mean that I can't relate.

I had the hardest time justifying to myself that it was OK to buy myself a nice watch that was a fairly significant part of my income. I grew up in a very humble background and worked for everything that I have achieved and I can honestly say that the feeling of achievement when you can finally buy the watch will be just incredible. I have bought more expensive watches than my first, but I don't think that any have had the same meaning, the same sense of achievement, or the same lasting appeal. In some ways that's sad, but there you go.

I applaud you for having the patience to wait until you have the cash, for recognising what is important to you, and by making the sacrifices necessary to achieve your goals. You admit to being young, so permit me the indulgence of a little advice - apply that philosophy to all aspects of your professional and personal lives and you'll achieve anything you set your mind to.

As others have said it will be well worth it when you get it - I know from personal experience. Not only did I save for my first Breitling but I also changed my mind on what model I wanted several times before I had acquired the funds for the purchase. What model are you (currunelty) saving for?

and more painful than saving are sudden expenses that eat into the timepiece reserve.

I got smacked with AMT this year which pretty much blew up my purchase of an extra couple of EVOs.

Jefferson I am in the same boat as you. Believe me the wait is totally worth it as are the sacrifices as tough as they may seem at the moment. When the day comes for you to pick it up its like 10 birthdays rolled in to one. I too changed my mind about 4 times while saving. I always see to go to the AD with one watch in mind and always end up with something different.

Whilst I applaud your patience and endurance.... I need to say something to you....

MAN - shroud's have no pockets. When you are dead - you are dead - and that is for a very long time.

If you have your debts at a managable level.... TAKE THE PLASTIC OUT AND BUY THE DAM WATCH! Perhaps you could consider buying used from a recognised vintage watch dealer.

To wait for eternity is just dam stupid.

The British seem to get some sort of joy out of pain and suffering.... well.... LIVE LIFE NOW!

archie, i think for somebody who is willing to wait and sacrifice to in the end get what they want is admirable, and isnt in need for people telling him to possibly go further in debt. its his idea of what he has to take care of in his life and shouldnt be questioned.

SO, go into debt, claim it isn't your fault, it was the damned credit card companies enticing you into it, then wait for the government bail-out.....sounds kinda like what is going on in the USA today
