Post subject: | Colt GMT finish |
Hi all.... I'm looking at my first Breitling and I am considering the Steelfish vs the GMT Auto. I was only able to see a regular Colt in person and was disappointed at the finish. It was simply too shiny. I'm looking for more info on this Colt GMT. According to some sources, the Colt GMT may be finished differently that the Colt- less shine and more brushed surface. Can someone lend a hand here? Thanks |

The GMT Has the same finish as the Colt Auto--polished. The Colt quartz is brushed. |

Last year, when I got my Steelfish, I had exactly the same dilemma. If anything, the GMT is shinier yet than the Colt. It was so shiny, as a matter of fact, I had a hard time reading the dial. The whole watch was a bit smaller, too, so I went with the Steelfish. The Steelfish is just a beautiful proportion of shiny and brushed. The PRO II is also brushed, and the sides of the case are polished. The whole thing works very well with the dial. When I had the Steelfish (since sold, but a beautiful watch just the same), I could not take my eyes off the dial. I also like the fact that it is a bit bigger (44mm), and that the lug width is 22mm instead of 20mm like the Colt GMT. It give the Steelfish a much beefier look. I always thought that it's too bad they didn't put the GMT movement into the Steelfish, to give it even more uniqueness. Cheers, Carl |

Can someone elaborate on the LE Steelfish GMT to which RJRJRJ refers? Limited Edition? No longer available? I'm going to ask my watchmaker friend if it's possible to modify a regular Steelfish? That would be cool. It's probably a completely different movement. |

Try to search the forums, there was a thread about it. forby wrote: I'm going to ask my watchmaker friend if it's possible to modify a regular Steelfish? That would be cool. It's probably a completely different movement. It is different movement and I wouldn't suggest you to alter the SF in any way because Breitling won't accept warranty on it and most probably wouldn't service it also. |

The polished finish on the Colt GMT is very nice. I've had mine for about 15 months now and it still looks great. I do like the Steelfish and the brushed finish though. You can't go wrong with either though. If you want something big though, go for the Steelfish. Here's a picture of my Colt GMT along with my Chronomat ![]() |

I loooooove my shiny Colt GMT. I guess I am just attrached to shiny things. Mmmm....me want shiny watch. What draws me to Breitling is that so many of their watches/bracelets are polished while most other brands are brushed. I actually don't like the Steelfish bracelet because it's brushed (although I agree it does fit the "rugged" look of the Steelfish). But to each his own. Mofongo |
