hey guys.. sorry, i'm new to the board and have a question for you fellow 'lingers.. I recently went snorkeling in the ocean with my navitimer on forgetting I had it on.. I didn't go deep or anything but was curious to see if I should bring it in for servicing or not.. It works fine but I was just wondering if there could be any damage or corrosion from the saltwater? Or am i just freaking out over nothing? haha. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Frodes |

Welcome aboard. It probably survived. You should rinsed it with fresh water after snorkeling. I'd go and check it at an AD. |

From what I recall the Navitimer is only water resistant to handle the occasional splash so after being submerged while snorkeling (in Salt Water) I would certainly keep a watchful eye on it. Heck, I would bring it in for a quick once over. |

BTW which NAVI do you have? I read a lot of things - doesn't make them true. It's resistant to 30 metres static water pressure (3 ATM), which in practical terms means you shouldn't swim with it. As others have said, in this case you probably got away with it, but I would certainly carefully rinse the salt off and I would also get it checked at an AD for peace of mind - you can't visually tell if water got into the movement, and if it did you need to get that addressed asap. |

wow, thanks for all the replies and suggestions folks! greatly appreciated.. i have this one exactly, with a black croc strap: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... itimer.jpg the movement seems fine, however its been about a week and i haven't put it under fresh water as of yet, maybe i should go to the mensroom and do it now. all in all, it seems fine.. was just wondering if i was freaking out for no reason. thanks again folks!!!! |
