Post subject:  Identify Breitling please

Hello all. I am going to get a Breitling for graduation and I need an ID on a Breitling I saw a few years ago. The watch had some sort of a tube attached to the bottom of the face and inside the tube was an arm going side to side like a second timer; the band was leather. Does anyone have any idea what the model is? Thank you in advance.

I have posted a picture below showing where this "tube" was:

It could have been a Breitling Emergency or Emergency Mission. The tube houses the wire antennea for the emergency beacon that transmits on frequency 121.5 for search and rescue.

I think you mean the Emergency - http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... al_35.html

or Emergency Mission - http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... al_34.html

The 'tube' is the Emergency transmitter.

The Emergency Mission was discontinued last year, but there will still be a few at ADs, They are both quartz watches, and of course the emergency transmitter is the major attraction.

Note - Garfield - you beat me to it.

That's not it. The tube actually protruded, almost as if some glass tube was glued onto the bottom of the face; inside the tube was an arm (like a tach gauge) that went side to side, almost like a second timer. I just remembered that part.

Thank you for the responses.

Let me understand this - it had a glass tube on top of the face of the watch? What direction was the tube - across the watch like the Emergency?

Yes, the tube was horizontal running along the bottom of the face.

I have absolutely no idea - I can't think of anything remotely like that.

There was the Compass that had a compass beneath a lift up dial, but that wasn't tube like. There was also the Rallye that had a 'cage' that flipped down over the dial, but that wasn't tube like either. There are also UTC and Co-Pilot modules that are like mini watches that fitted onto the strap / bracelet, but I can't think of anything that meets your description. Are you sure that it was a genuine Breitling as opposed to a fake or another brand?

I am not sure if it was genuine. I noticed a guy wearing it while I was working and asked him about it. He said it was a Breitling.

All I can suggest is that you look through the Models section of the site - http://www.breitlingsource.com/breitlin ... ries.shtml

See if anything looks familiar, but there's nothing there with a tube on it - sorry.

No luck. Thanks for the link. I guess this watch in my head isn't a Breitling or is a knockoff.

Maybe something like this Casio Edifice

No, it looked sophisticated like a Breitling. Fine leather band, large face, etc.

I think that the guy was sporting a fake.

Could it have been some sort of tourbillon like the one pictured below?

If it was genuine, it was a very rare and expensive piece. However, that feature (well, something that looks similar) is often seen on repica pieces as well.

Sounds like a (most likely fake) tourbillon to me as well.
