Hi Everyone

I would like to buy a second Breitling. I like the Blackbird quite a lot and would like to get one. What are general feelings about this model? I see that there is not much discussion on this forum about the Blackbird. Does anyone here own one?

Is it a model that is about to be discontinued? what is the quality of the movement like? Any info you have will be great!

Look forward to your responses

Regards
Graeme

I looked into it before buying my Chronomat Evolution. I liked the big date display but the Evolution has a nice polished look. Blacky with that brushed steel is not as impressive.

The new Blackbird is pretty cool with the Big Date display and the tri-compax subdial layout, but like Altair said, it is all brushed, and the dial is matte and very understated. It doesn't shine quite like the Evo... it depends on what kind of statement you want to make :)

Thanks for the responses and you make good points. I currently own Steelfish and really love it. I would like my next watch to be a bit more "showy" so I would probably look to get a polished piece. If only the Blackbird was polished!

I like the EVO, but also like the Super Avenger... decisions decisions

I think it's very slick!

I probably won't buy another polished watch. My Navi-World is just too hard to keep fine scratches out of. I will purchase a brushed piece from now on, and polish myself.

Grey,

Get the Super Avenger or you will be sorry, just ask defiancekofb. If you want to play around with 1/2 and 3/4 Lings wait until after you have the FULL LING.

The movement is different too. There is an added big date complication putting the subdials in different locations. Also, the subdials on the blackbird aren't very pronounced, giving it a very subdued look. The Pilot Bracelet on the Blackbird is not only brushed, but faceted, so it is different than the standard pilot. But yes, you are correct in that they are similar.

It really is a great looking watch, I tried one on at my local AD and was very impressed!!

Given the choice, what would you guys rather buy, the Blackbird or Avenger Skyland? must say I am really starting to like the Skyland a lot. It is a serious chunk 'o steel. Breitling just make so many awesome watches it is hard to choose. Dont you think the Breitling has the best names for its watches? Im sure a lot of people have bought watches just because of the name. I mean, how cool are names like: Seawolf, Blackbird, Steelfish etc..

According to the acceldebt scale of "full Ling'ness" :-) what would these 2 pieces be? full or 1/2 Lings?

They'd be 3/4 Lings.. both of them...

I like the Skyland more than the Blackbird if you don't have many Lings.. its bigger and shinier and newer. However the blackbird is a higher-end watch... I would buy a Blackbird, because I don't have many brushed Breitlings, and the Skyland looks like a mini-Super Avenger.. no point when I already have an SA. But if i didn't have any Lings, i'd get the Skyland

Admin,

The Skyland is definately the "wiser" of the 2 purchases. I have a brushed Ling so it would make sense to get one that is polished. I like the size and weight of it, really has a great presence.

As far as dial colours, does it only come in black and blue? My ideal Skyland would be the blue dial with the steel bracelet. I am not a fan of the blacksteel version.

Perhaps you can answer another question for me. Why is the writing on the dials on the various models so different? for instance on my Steelfish it says "Chronometre Certifie Automatic" but on the Seawolf for instance it says "Chronometre Officiellment Certifie Automatic"

The Blackbird is slick, but I would much rather own a Super Avenger in the black dial.

In my opinion, there are not 1/4, 1/2, or 3/4 Lings. It's either you have a FULL LING, or you don't. I would definitely buy the FULL LING first, and then consider other options. There's nothing like having a FULL LING on your wrist.

Besides, the Super Avenger can be purchased for $750-850 less than the Blackbird.

I think almost all the Chronometre certified Lings will say Chronometre on the dial somewhere, but pretty much anything on the dials is just for looks.

I thought the Skyland only came in black, but I guess I never really looked into it. Whatever is on the Breitling website is probably accurate.

Listen to Brian he KNOWS. What will happen here is you will get the Skyland or some other diminished Ling, then you will go back to the dealer and try on the Super Avenger and wish you bought it in the first place. The reason this happens is that you get used to the size of the 3/4 Ling and then it doesn't seem so big anymore which is the same thing that happens with Full Lings. Get the SA and get the 52" Aquos.
