Post subject:  Watch Winder

Is it necessary to keep your watch on a winder if you don't wear it everyday. Some may remember my earlier post about my new Colt. I don't wear it everyday because I work around a lot of machinery and it would probably get pretty beat up. I have been winding it manually, but would it be better to put it on a winder. If so, what would be a good entry level winder to purchase? Thanks!

No you do not HAVE to use a watch winder, it will not hurt the watch to let it run down completely. You will just have to wind it and set teh time adn day.

Pros: Watch it always ready to be worn with no adjustment to the date or time (except daylight savings or months with less than 31 days)

Cons: Cost of winder. An entry level winder like the Wolf 1.5 will run you under $200 US. Dont buy a cheapo winder for your watch. You must have a winder that has rest periods to allow the mainspring to wind down, the correct direction to be wound, adjustable number of turns per day. A cheapo eBay winder might not have these things (check the description) adn will not usually last as long as a better built unit.

I use a winder because I am lazy and want to slect the one I want to wear, strap it on and go. I have all of my watches on a winder so they are always ready to be worn.

I use winders due to number of pieces, but many of my manual wind pieces I keep running just by winding them every day - maybe 30 seconds per watch.
