I'm thinking about making another watch purchase. I like to buy my watches new rather than used so I'm not looking at the preowned market. I want to get a watch with a chronograph function so I'm looking at Breitling, Omega, and Tag right now. Grey market prices are very good and as long as the serial numbers are intact I think I'm okay with it. I know it's probably not the smartest choice but I did come across some ebay sellers with 99% or higher feedback so that gives some comfort. Any thoughts?

be carefull, i believe the rule of thumb is buy the seller before u buy the watch. dont be afraid to call and ask as many questions as u want. if for real they should have no problem answering them.

There are dozens and dozens of threads on here about this that you can find with the search function, and a list of trusted online sellers in the Feedback forum, but........

I have never bought a piece online that I could get from an AD, and I have always got a better price from an AD than I could get online.

Admittedly I get a very good discount because I am a frequent buyer, and the fact that I am in Canada and the grey market dealers aren't factors in with customs fees, exchange rates, etc, but to me it just isn't worth it - especially when you consider the lack of a factory warranty and the fact that the grey market dealers won't be using Breitling parts in any warranty work that they perform (because they can't get them).

Others will disagree, and there are members who have had great experiences online. For comparison, drop jnelson3097 a PM for contact details of George at Govberg (an AD) who will give you a very good price.

I have only purchased my watches from AD's so I can't speak to that aspect. What I do know is I would not trust the feedback percentages on ebay or similar sites. I can't tell you the number of replicas and fakes identified by the experts on this site whose seller have close, if not 100% feedback.

My experience has ben positive when calling or visiting an AD. Due to hard economical times they want you to buy through them. They have quoted me better prices than the ones posted online!

I think I'll call govberg tomorrow and get some price quotes. Correct me if I'm wrong but buying out of state will alos avoid taxes so the prices should be very close to grey market.

I've bought two Breitlings from George and he is top-notch! Very fair prices, overnight shipping and no sales tax. And when it's even close to possible, buy from an AD.

I had no problems buying grey market. I wouldn't touch Ebay with a 10ft bargepole, but a few of the internet dealers are sound. Mine came with all paperwork and Breitling warranty. However, since then I think AD's have lowered their margins in response to the market, and there is little difference in prices between AD's and online. Currently I would buy from an AD - no doubt.

havent read the whole thread but before you buy grey market give Andrew Michaels a cal in the UK not only will you get a good deal but if you are in the US or overseas elsewhere saving the VAT and the exchange rate gain will likely blow a grey market porice out the water.

George is definitely your best bet for the US, if you need a Canadian AD let me know - not sure how big a deal the current exchange rate is to you.
