on my hercules how do i reset the red tipped elapsed second hand?

I assume you're talking about more of a problem than just pressing the bottom push-piece here?!

If it doesn't zero correctly when you press the bottom push-piece, it sounds like a little problem that your AD will fix for you..... probably with a trip to the service centre.
