The Breitling Watch Source Forums

After finding this forum less than a week ago and prior to that finally being in a position after several years to buy my first Breitling, it has been a very interesting experience.

For a few years now, I have admired the Aerospace watch and it was this model which drew me to the Breitling brand and was always the watch I would look at in the AD's window whenever I walked by.

I had pretty much ruled out looking at any other models in the Ling range as was so focussed on the Aerospace and after seeing and feeling the watch first hand a couple of weeks ago, I had pretty much decided yes it was the watch for me.

However ...

After finding this site and viewing so many excellent pictures of members watches I soon found myself appreciating the wider spectrum of the Breitling brand and being drawn to other models in the range.

One such watch is the 2009 Seawolf.

In the 2008 brochure I had, I was not drawn to the 08 model at all, but after seeing several pics of this watch on this site and kept finding myself going back and having "another look", then checking out the breitling site and viewing this model at length ... the changes made to the 09 model seamed to transform the watch for me.

My dilemma now is ...

Do I go for what was my dream watch for years and look to acquire a Seawolf in a few years time or go for the Seawolf now but risk regretting not getting the Aerospace first.

Its a real problem for me as I really like both watches.

It is a nice problem to have I admit and i am really appreciative for the knowledge I have picked up from this site in a very short space of time.

I have gotta make my mind up shortly so I just thought I would see what you all think and if anybody has had a similar experience at all.

This is a very difficult poll to answer, as the two watches in question are almost complete opposites!

One is automatic, big, chunky, hewn from a lump of steel, designed to withstand massive pressure under the sea : the other is Superquartz, thin, light as a feather, made from titanium, and designed for pilots. Total opposite ends of the spectrum.

Both are great in their own ways, but apart from being made by Breitling and telling the time, they have zero else in common. It'll come down to your personal preference at the end of the day, but given the huge differences I think you have no option but to buy both!

(But if it helps, I voted Seawolf ..... but that's just because I prefer autos and I hate titanium).

My vote for SW also.

Also, the Wolf comes in the coolest dial colors available. And if you can scare up a matching UTC (no small task -- ask Headoffice) that horological sweetness multiplies!!! Goodluck!!!

Yeah, go with the Seawolf and keep looking for the UTC module. Don't worry, you will get the Aerospace, Navitimer, Super Avenger, Montbrillant, etc. & then the Breitling for Bentley's

Judging by the response so far, there is a resounding support for the Seawolf.

Or is just that the Aerospace is considered a less traditional model and the Seawolf appeals more widely to Ling collectors.

Well to be honest, the Aerospace is much more "traditional" from a Breitling perspective than the Seawolf as it has been around in one guise or another for many years. The Seawolf is a fairly new piece, especially in it's current steel incarnation. However, the Aerospace is much more of a niche watch in as much as it is designed with the professional pilot in mind, and these days people tend to go for the more flashy polished steel models. Additionally, the Seawolf is probably more of an all-round utility piece due to it's WR rating : you will always see a mulititude of dive (or dive inspired) watches on the market, compared to very few flight inspired ones.

As I said above, my own reason for saying the Seawolf in this poll is primarily due to the fact that I much prefer automatic pieces...... but if you wanted to be a bit different, the Aerospace would definitely be the way to go IMO.

It has to be Seawolf for me because it's the mechanical one.

It would also be my aesthetic choice.

I have the Avenger Seawolf 2009 with the Black Dial. That is my vote. It is the heaviest and largest watch I have owned.

My previous experience has been the Rolex Submariner and The Omega Seamaster. The Seawolf is my choice by far.

Also, I have noticed due to the AR coating the Black Dial turns from black to a deep navy blue when rotated, my wife actually thought the dial was blue.

I would like to know what the forum of members prefers for the band? I currently have the module on the Professional II bracelet, the negative is that it tends to slide around on my wrist. I have had it adjusted, it is either slightly snug or slightly loose. I would like to hear feedback on the preference for the bracelet or the Diver Pro. I have noticed in most advertisement and in the Owners manual that the watch is displayed or phtographed with the Diver Pro band.

The band / strap is also something I've thought about a lot.

Can't believe how much you have to think anbout when getting a breitling

Face colour
Strap type / colour etc etc

I really like the ocean racer rubber strap and think it looks great ... also think it suits the Seawolf big time !

However, I also like the metal strap.

There are just far too many choices

If money were no object I would like ...

An Aerospace with titanium strap
&
A Seawolf with Ocean Racer strap

That would be heaven for me right now

I think it will just be a matter of time before you buy both watches.

So, which watch do you want to own first?

I'm going to vote for the Aerospace. It is the one that you have wanted for many years. I was in the same boat, and I'm glad I bought my dream watch.

Now I am saving for my next one. It will probably be a SuperOcean Chrono, but I'm not sure. I do know it will be a mechanical.

Just my thoughts. You win either way.
