This is the story of how I Decided to buy a Breitling.

I was in Atlantic City doing some window shopping. My wife walked in to a make-up shop, so I decided to check out the jewelry shop next door. I was walking around just looking at the eye candy, not really impressed. I approached the counter where they had a humble selections of Breitlings. I had no idea what a Breitling was up until that point. Amung their meager collection was one black dial Super Avenger. It cought my eye and I asked to try it on. As soon as she pulled it out of the case, I knew it. Just knew it. I took off my now dwarfed Tag and slipped on this beheamouth of a watch. I started to shake a little. Knowing I could not buy it, (my wife holds the credit cards for a good reason) and took it off in despare. Ever since then I have ben squirling away, and should have enough money by the end of the Summer.

To be Continued.....

Feel free to share your Moment of Clarity.

Nice story.

I had a group of friends over the house, one of them showed up with an white dial numbers version SA. The moment I slipped it on my wrist I knew I had to had one.

Back in college, ran a little security for a friend of mine. After his rounds he always swung by a couple of pawn shops in Detroit. One place was actually a decent jewelry pawn. I was always impressed by the "nice" watches. I was looking over a Tag when the owner came up to me and told me that a Tag was like a Toyota. I should try on a Cadillac. He placed a Chrono Evo on my wrist. I knew right then..... :lingsrock:

I've always loved watches as long as I can remember. I was the first kid in infants school (as far as I remember) to have a watch - a Timex. Caused quite a stir if I recall! And from then on I always the kid with the cool new Casio or Zeon (remember those!).

At 16 my parents bought me a great two-tone Seiko for passing my exams - broke into the "3 figure price bracket" with that one!

Then at Uni there was a guy with a Rolex Date Just, which was very cool because a) it was real(!), and b) it wasn't the ubiquitous Submariner. And then towards the end of Uni a certain film called Goldeneye came out, and I knew I had to have a Seamaster..... which I did. But as I was buying it, the guy brought out a Superocean at the same time for me to try. I absolutely loved it, but had my heart set on the Omie, so that was it. But the SO never left my mind and a Breitling (a Chronomat) soon joined the Seamaster after a pay day or two!

Never looked back.

Got offered a watch for my 16th birthday. My parents didn't have much cash so took me to look at Casio, Timex, etc and next to them was a manual wind Sekonda - UK name for a Russian brand (this was before the collapse of the Soviet Union). Price was basically the same so that was the one for me.

Started learning a bit about watches and stumbled across a picture of an 806. Game Over!

Cool stories everyone. I have always ben attracted to watches. I think I got the watch bug when I was 10 or so. My Uncle had a Rolex Submariner (could have ben a fake) and I was amazed by it's size and ability to glow in the dark. I was always buying watches, each time a little more expensive. I started with Timex, moved to a Citizen eco-drive, Movado (which I wore like twice), Tag, (My current), and, hopefully soon, Breitling. Then another, and another...

I remember seeing the display at Diamonds International in Belize in 2006 and thinking to myself that I would love to own one of them someday.

I've also always been into watches. Went through the usual, bought-by-parents models when young but the good thing was each was a little different. Asked for a nice watch when parents were in the states one time and was given a Citizen Eco-Drive which as subsequently stolen some time later. With the insurance money I ended up purchasing another eco-drive but not before having a good look around at what was there - funnily enough at that age and in that store that was the best there was.

Decided I wanted to start my luxury collection a couple of years ago and did some extensive research into what I would like. Tried the usual brands - Omega, Tag, Breitling, Oris etc but ended up coming time and time again back to Breitling for their look, prestige, ruggedness and precision, especially the Navitimers!

Hooked now for life

Great thread and stories!!

When I was 18 I did my military service and met a guy who went to the watchmaker school in Sweden. He praised the Swedish brand Sjöö Sandström and from that moment I knew I wanted one whenever I could spare the money. As they started at $1600 I wasn't able to get one right then, but honestly I think that only fueled my interest.

A few years ago I got my watch. The AD also happened to be a Breitling AD and I couldn't help glancing towards the yellow display case. A few months later I decided I wanted a watch with a little more "oomph" and color than my black, classic dial Sjöö Sandström. I went into the dealer and got to look at an orange bezel Omega, the coral SuperOcean and some more colorful Tags. The decision narrowed down to the SO and since then I've been stuck on Breitlings. Currently it is accompanied by 7 others, a few more have been with me for a while and one is (hopefully) incoming soon.
