I've got my eye on few Breitlings just now and I'm being strangely attracted to two-tone versions. Having never owned a TT Breitling I'm not familiar with their method of manufacturing gold parts. Are they "capped" -a thick layer of gold bonded on to a steel base. Plated - I hope not, or solid? Thanks David |

Thanks David Most parts are rolled gold - what you call 'capped'. It's a 20 micron sheet of gold laminated to the base metal - steel for Breitling. Some parts are solid gold - rider tabs for sure, and there's some debate over crowns and pushers - I think some solid, some rolled. Breitling hasn't plated since the mid 90s at the lastest, and even then many were rolled. In vintage pieces there are all three - plate, gold filled (rolled) and solid 18K. |

Perfect, helpful reply and thank you David Breitling hasn't plated since the mid 90s at the lastest, and even then many were rolled.
