Post subject:  Is there any point in buying emergency if you're not a pilot

Hi guys,

I really like the Breitling Emergency with the yellow dial. But let's face it, I'll never need to use the emergency signal.

Is it really worth paying the extra money for an Emergency than going for something like the Aerospace or Airwolf. Is there any owners that can recommend any of these models? I've read a few not so good reviews of the aerospace, with people saying they don't last long, or their not waterproof, that type of stuff.

To be honest, I think it's the yellow dial that draws me to the Emergency, I just wish they did it in the Aerospace.

The reason I'm considering those models is that I've had a few automatic models these past few years and I fancy a change.

Hope to hear from you guys soon.

First I must say that the yellow dial emergency is just flat out cool!!! Yes even if you are a pilot its a such a slim chance you will ever use it ( living thru the plane crash itself and alot of other events before you ever get the chance to pull the cap and let it do its thing). Yes it costs more to service it as you can't go to even your AD and have the batteries changed it must be sent in. BUT if you have the cash and nothing else will do it for you.....then go for it as you can always resell it and get most if not all of your money back. My 28 year old son has been wanting the same watch ( emergency , yellow dial) for about a year and we have talked about the same stuff. In the end I know he will own one, as you should to. If this watch DOES IT FOR YOU then buy it and enjoy! The only other watch I would look at is the yellow dial M1 as that again is also a very sharp watch and you can wear that to the ends of the earth as well as it is built like a tank. Good luck.

Cheers guys.

Is there any real difference between the aerospace and the emergency? apart from the obvious emergency antenna of course!

I'm just debating whether or not to spend the extra money just because i want the yellow dial. It's virtually double the price!

But for my money, the yellow dial emergency is the coolest watch in the world! 8)

I have worn both (I own an Aerospace now). I agree with you the yellow dial is great, but I also love my black dial Aerospace. The titanium is lighter than you can believe and the superquartz keeps perfect time. I have the Diver Pro strap and a custom leather strap that I change out occasionally with the bracelet.

IMO you can't go wrong with either. I enjoyed wearing the Emergency when we tested them for the Navy, but I also love the Aerospace. In the end, and as other have said, you should buy the watch you really want. If you settle and get something that you just like or costs less, you will be unhappy and wish that you had spent the extra money and had the watch.

I have "settled" before with other brands and was not happy until I got the watch I actually wanted in the first place. I say go for it and get the Emergency if you can afford it, or save for a while and get it if you need to. But I will say that the Aerospace does it for me and I enjoy it every time I wear it!

Good luck.

The yellow dial Emergency is 8) . Get it with the (hard to find) yellow UTC module and wear it with taps on your shoes as you saunter along in front of the pool hall throwing sparks  . Just watch all the little boys marvel
It is way cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to comment on the reliability of the Aerospace. My first Breitling watch in 1997 was the Aerospace. The battery was replaced in 2002 and a total overhaul was performed 4 weeks ago. In 2005 I bought a second Aerospace and with both watches I had no problems at all.
With (expensive) watches you don't only buy functionality, if this was the main reason a $20 quartz watch would do the job! We buy lings because we LIKE THEM. It is clear you love the yellow emergency and you try to find excuses NOT to buy it, I know the feeling  The fact is you are infected and sooner or later, and I hope for you sooner as the human lifespan is too short, you will have this beautiful watch on your wrist and you will feel GREAT.
