Hey guys, I've noticed since I got my Herc, that the AR coating seems to be getting more and more scratches in it by the day... I am extremely cautious with my watches and I'm not sure why this is happening. I noticed today what looks like a small circular spot in the AR coating. I'm thinking of removing the AR coating on the outside as it has become more distracting than a good thing. First, your thoughts on this? Second, if I do go through with removing it, what is the recommended way to do so? Should I have someone at an AD to do it or should I buy something and do it myself? Any concerns when doing it yourself? Thanks for the advice in advance guys! Chris |

Breitling AR is usually very tough. my Herc is looking really good, only the slightest marks that are almost impossible to see without magnification. If you have a small circular spot, it could be a dried droplet of something. Try cleaning it with rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth. If you feel the need to remove it, a cape cod cloth and about 30 minutes of hard rubbing will do the job, just make sure you mask off the bezel so you don't inadvertantly polish it. Mark |

As Mark said, it might be dried drop of some liquid. Give your Herc a good bath and wipe the crystal when it's still wet. |

Thanks guys, I tried to clean it off, but it almost appears like if you poked a hole in some sealed plastic wrap and it got a little air underneath. I'll work on it a little more and see what happens. Any recommendations of where to get a cape cod cloth just in case I go that route? Thanks again, Chris |

Can you post a pic of the AR? I'm curious to see how it look and what this circle looks like. Cape Cod cloths can be purchased on eBay |

Well, I was able to clean off the circular spot, so no worries there. I'll hold off on removing the AR coating until I can't stand the scratches/swirls on the coating. Thanks guys for all the advice. I think I need to go to watch buyers annonymous! |

You can get it re-AR'd either through Breitling or in the aftermarket/modder scene. |

That's a good point. I really can't comment on the durability of the aftermarket services. All I can attest to is how it looks visually, which is just like the factory AR. |

My SA is at Breitling Service because of a couple of tiny scratches on the AR coating..... My AD is trying to pass it under the warranty (its a 1 month old watch, maybe, just maybe....)... I think its my wife's diamond ring that nicked it, when we were in "close" contact!!!! ![]() (since then, I stopped wearing my Breitling watches in bed ![]() I hope to get an answer (in my favor) this week from BIG HEARTED AND GENEROUS BREITLING SERVICE (hopefully) |
