Yeah, it's just us idiots who stayed!
I guess your fore fathers must've fancied a decent health service too.... Oh and a better quality of life.... And (as we've already discussed) cheaper house prices.... And... and... and!! Ooops sorry - I almost became political there!

There's very little movement decoration on that watch.. is that typical of Panerai?

Actually they are very similar to Lings - there is perlage decoration on the movt plates and Cote de Geneve striping in the top plate. Panerai do a similar amount of work on their movts to Breitling and all panerai's with a second hand have COSC certification. In fact Breitling and Panerai are the COSC's biggest customers.

Driver8 - don't get carried away - the housing market will collapse so things can only get better and we will be having a British F1 Drivers Champion soon as well as Rugby WC champions!!!!!!!

Right, just back from a few days away - time to reply.

In fact the rubber Panerai strap is only one of two supplied with most Panerai watches - depending on the type, many are supplied with a full deployant buckle and very fine alligator strap - as standard (listen up Breitling)

This particular watch is one of only 500, as previously mentioned, and yes, I am lucky to have got hold of it. It takes it's design from the original divers watches from the 1940s as Mark correctly states (he's also on the Paneristi forum!!) and although I don't have a photo, the crystal is a huge domed affair - very tasty. I wear mine on a black leather (Greg Stevens) strap with blue stitching (to match the blue sweep hand!!) To put a metal bracelet on a watch like this just wouldn't be right....

As to the design of the crown guard, that's one of the things that makes the watch attractive to me - it's different, and I like that in male 'jewellery'

I now have a small collection of Panerai - the left handed 'destro' I'll be wearing tonight at a Paneri GTG here in Toulouse. This said, I'll also be wearing the Bentley - I love stirring it up a bit

With only 12 made I'm surprised you even saw one! Bit confused as to the 'NM' tho...

I do like Pannies myself, although I can't see myself having a collection of them. Loved the Regatta Flyback ever since I first saw it, and I've always liked the Arktos, but that would be it really. Oh and I guess the Daylight is pretty sweet too! Hmmm, maybe i could handle a collection after all!

We shall see Mark, we shall see! Lewis really should have wrapped it all up at the last race, and "the boys in white" may be up against it a bit on Saturday. Keep everything crossed! (And for the footie boys playing on that "lovely" plastic pitch in Russia!)

Just so happens I've got a Daylight (black dial) This is a 250 for the paneristi - and I rather like the look of the white dial Daylight (the 251) - so much so that I ordered one - should be arriving at the end of the month...

As for the strap changing...it never ends!

Thanx - it's not bad is it - and the 'lefty' (Destro) is pretty cool too...

That black chrono with the tachymeter is to die for though. What would be a good price on that model?

I just can't get past the arabic numerals. I do prefer roman anyway, but the arabics on Panerais always look to me like they've been done by a 9 year old, or maybe someone practicing cake decoration - especially the 6 and 9.

The black dial/ivory dial are the same price - in the region of £3800 new...

As for the 219 (Destro) Fugly? Personal innit - try to get to see one in the flesh - you may change your mind...

Just a detail - while the photo of the destro is c**p, it shows the sandwich dial quite well - the numbers are cut out of the black dial, and the luminous material shows through from underneath...magic - I'll have to try for a lume shot one day - lights up the room!!

Agreed it is a very personal thing. Not really ugly just seems a bit...bland.

I too preffer Roman over Arabic Numerals Roffensian, though nice simple markers are what I really love on most watches. The only exception would be the Bentley 6.75, I would really like to see that watch in a 3-6-9-12 Roman design, big silver Romans
