my Tutima NATO military chrono to my Breitling 50th anniversary for the rest of the day. My Tutimas are my general purpose and workout watches. I ride my bike along the Rio Grande river for 6 + miles around 5 days a week. If I would take a spill my Tutimas are titanium so no harm done. My Breitlings are all SS and I wouldn't want to go skidding with my 50th or my Lemania 1873 handwinding. Different watches for different events.

I find that Ti scratches easier than SS. |

It's a tougher metal than stainless steel. Not being a metalurgist I can't quote the differences but I do know that it is a difficult metal to work with vis a vis stainless and costs more. It's just like I won't wear my 1929 Hamilton 14 k YG while riding. To me it's more than just the metal used, it's the watch as I said. |

I think it depends on the quality of the titanium, but everything I have heard about titanium is that it does scratch easier than steel. |

Titanium is softer than steel, so it will always be easier to scratch a titanium piece. On he other hand, titanium is also much tougher than steel so it will be more difficult to break or reshape the titanium than steel. |

My Tutimas are powered by Lemania's 5100. The only watch you can purchase having said movement. Since they passed the German government's military contractors and put through severe testing for their Air Force, I'm confident that insides would be fine. For additional information on the L 5100 I refer you to some articles by Chuck Maddox and his opinions of the L 5100. Compares the movement to the legendary Russian T-34 tank of WWII fame. |
