will it affect the movement if i were to change time on a navitimer world bet. 8pm & 3am? how about if i were to adjust it during that time but when the power reserve has run out?

You should be fine if you are adjusting time, the problem comes when you adjust the date during that period.

The parts of the movement that move the date forward are (at least partially) engaged between those hours and there is a danger that you will strip the teeth if you manually change the date during that time.

If the power reserve has run out during that period you will have the same problem because the date complication will be engaged, but if you are only adjusting the time you should be fine whether the watch is running or not (obviously you stop the watch to adjust time anyway)

Would adjusting the date by adjusting the time esentially work through the date adjusting movement and therefore not be a problem?

Say the watch stopped at 11pm last night (partially engaged in its date change), and today I need to adjust the time and date by advancing time through say 12hrs (then if needed the date could be adjusted to anything).

Adjusting the date by turning the time past midnight is fine, and would not cause a problem.

Mark can explain this more thoroughly than me, but when you adjust the time you are really just 'fast tracking' the natural movement of the watch - the operation ofthe date complication will still happen between the indicated hours of 8pm and 3am and the cogs will engage / disengage without a problem.

When you adjust the date specifically you are moving just the parts of the movement that make up the date complication - the time is completely unaffected and that is what causes the problems when the two mechanisms are partially or fully engaged (between 8pm and 3am)

what if one did change the date between 8pm&3am,how would u know if the movement has been damaged?would it be immediate disfunctioning?

Well the symptom (if the teeth were stripped) would be that the date wouldn't move forward. What I don't know is whether the problem would always occur or only occasionally - it would depend on whether the date complication always engages at the same point of the wheel (i.e. are the broken teeth the ones that always engage).

I'll have to defer to Mark and / or watchmakeress for that answer.

If you did try and change the date during that time, you would first notice that the date doesn't quite turn.. it will turn part way and kind of get stuck. Now if you continued trying to turn it because you can't figure out why its stuck, then you may strip the gear.
