I love the rugged look and professional appeal of the watch, but is it completely unnecessary for everyday use? To those of you that have one, are you a pilot or an adventurer? Do you go to remote places? Would I be stupid to even consider buying one and would the risk of someone activating the beacon be too great? I do venture out into remote mountainous regions and also go on holidays to remote destinations. So, it would be worth taking. What are your thoughts please? |

as someone who enjoys a little skiing/snowbording it may come in handy if there were ever to be a avalanche. as someone who takes trips abroad a few times a year it may come in handy if the plane were to crash lane in some remote location likihood of these scenarios taking place- 0.000001% but its good to know you've got protection. if everyone who bought an emergency bought it for serious use, sales would be a fraction of what they are. |

remember, the emergency, airwolf & older B1 are the real deal in tool/instrument watches. Like a swiss army knife but with style. You choose the one which aligns to your lifestyle most. The emergency is expensive to service due to the elt, so you have to weigh up whether this outweighs aesthetics or not. If you do go kayaking, sailing, trekking or flying then its a slick piece. It looks very similar to the aerospace only thinner. The aerospace has 90% of the same dial as the emergency & is water proof to 100m. The newest ones look very nice indeed. I know people with both. I would go for the emergency, but I do pastimes which I've listed above too. Good luck. |

its a cool watch. you wouldnt look stupid. Its your choice . If you like something buy it. Do it for you. I like it and I dont think its that easy to activate I believe you have to unscrew the other crown and pull the antenna out to activate it . So accidental activation will be avoided. If you do go on excursions you are pretty much set. Its used really for aeronautical emergencies but if God forbid something happened to you or if I had it and something happened to me I'd use it anyway. ![]() |

I bought my Emergency (the 'civilian' Mission) a few weeks ago simply because I like it and wanted it in my collection. Silver face with a pro II bracelet and it looks great. I originally wanted a yellow faced Emergency but when I tried it on it wasn't for me. I like to feel my Lings on my wrist and the titanium model was just too light. The EM has now gone out of production and that was another reason I bought mine when I did. I spoke to my AD about my concerns regarding false activations and in all of the Emergency's history there have only been 5. But beware...it'll cost a small fortune if it does go off. If it is activated then cutting the antenna or wrapping it around the watch (in the case of the EM) will de-activate it. To have it repaired in the event of a false activation will cost about half the watches original value. I couldn't care less...I wanted one, so I got one! I'm not a pilot or a serious adventurer - I just love Breitlings, which is a good enough reason to buy one. And no, it's not completely unnecessary for everyday use. Go on! Do it! You know you want to! ![]() |

I dont think there is such thing as "accidentally" activating it...there are way too many conscious steps required... That said, if I ever did (drunk maybe?) I would tear the antenna out or smash the damn thing on the ground. Lost $$$ but much less than the fines. |
