Post subject:  Got my Croswind Special today...mixed emotions...

Ok, so I got my Crosswind Special today and I have to be honest, I have some mixed emotions. Initially the dial color is much lighter than I expected. It was described as charcoal and the photos appeared much darker. (As seen in my previous post) It's more of a slate grey/blue. Not that it is not a great looking watch, I'm just not sure it is exactly my taste.
This is the most I've spent on a watch so far, and my fear is that I won't wear it enough to warrant the cost for me. Do watches grow on you? I've always loved every watch I've purchased and never had any mixed feelings. The watch arrived and in pristine condition, so I am pleased about that.
I tried it on for a little while and thought, maybe I'll keep it...but I'm not sure.
So, I'm not sure what to do. The place I bought it from has a three day return policy and a 10% restocking fee...I thought about having it sized and seeing if it grows on me, but then I would pass the return time frame.
Not sure what to do yet...I've never been undecided before, especially with an watch this expensive.
Any words of wisdom?

Chris

Sorry to hear that, if you're spending that much money on watch it should be love at first sight! I'd talk to the AD and see if maybe they'll forgive the restocking fee. I don't see why they wouldn't...especially if you were to purchase another watch from them that you did love.

Hmmmmm, in my experience a watch rarely grows on you once you own it and have it in your head that you are unsure about it. (The only watches that have grown on me are ones that I've seen in pictures and disliked, but grew on me once I saw them in the flesh).

I made the mistake with a Rolex Sub LV once. I'd wanted it for years, then when I finally got one I was somewhat nonplussed by it. I so wanted to love it that I kept it for a while in the hope that it'd grow on me, but it just didn't..... and it was sold within the year.

As Mac said, try speaking to the guy and see they'll waive the restocking fee if you buy something else from them. Good luck mate.

You either love it at first sight or you don't. Sorry to say but I think instead of feeling stuck with any remorse you should accept the restocking fee :(

Agree with both Driver and Mario. Best would of course if they'll waive the fee, but even if they don't it's better to give up 10% to them then at least 30% when you sell it privately.

POST A PIC.

ITS PRE-OWNED ASSUME? WHERE DID YOU BUY IT FROM. SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD PLACE TO EVEN LET YOU RETURN IT AT ALL.

I HAVE HAD SOME GROW ON ME OVER THE YEARS. BUT IF YOU INITIAL INSTINCT IS NEGATIVE, YOU MAY NEVER GROW TO LOVE IT. IS THERE A MODEL YOU LIKE MORE??

Well, It's all packed up to go back. I will have to pay the 10% restocking fee, which is a little painful just to try on a watch, but I figured if I tried to sell it a little later on, I would have lost the same or even more money.
I spoke with the place I purchased it from, and he is going to a watch show next weekend to pick up some more pieces, and he offerred to call me to let me know if there was anything I was interested in and give me a price break.
The CWS is a beautiful watch, but I think it's also a little too "pretty" for me. I kind of like a more rugged looking watch in a sense. I'm working on picking up a Hercules, and I think that should be a little more my style. Maybe I'll try and pick up the Omega PO 46 black with Orange numbers...I've tried this one on and it's definatley me.
Oh well...Live and learn I guess.

Thanks for the words of wisdom guys and the support!

I think you should return it also. 10% is a small loss compared to what you would take if trying to sell it in todays market.

Watches NEVER grow on me, I either love them or hate them.

Yeah, never really have them grow on me after I try them on.. but I do get tired of them. Also like D8 was saying, sometimes a watch that I don't like in pictures I feel different about after I receive it, which gives the feeling of growing on me. Also, I've had watches grow on me when I see them. Like I never really liked Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso watches, but I kind of want one now.

All is good in the world though as I just got in my "new to me" Grey dialed Hercules...
Much more my style! I'll post up some photos soon.

sorry to hear about that Chris.

I had the EXACT same thing happen with my new grey dial SS Seawolf that i got.
never had one in my hand to look at and went off pics.
got it and was not in love nor could I warm up so I sold it.

I did buy what I was in love with the moment I opened the box, my new Super Avenger.

I think you are best to go back to the dealer and cry and plead for them to take it back
with no restocking fee and to find something that makes you feel all warm inside and tingly.
THEN, you know you have the right one that you will enjoy.

good luck in your decision.
