Post subject:  Question for anyone in the Vancouver B.C. area(regarding SA)
hello all, I just bought my first watch a few days ago...its a breitling SA....i also got a diamond bezel, the tech at the AD was on his last day so i slipped him a tip and he installed the bezel for me. The problem is that i guess one of the diamonds wasnt set properly and it fell out. So now i have to ship the bezel back to get it fixed..the seller i purchased from is very reputable so im not worried...only thing is i dont know where to go to get the bezel removed from besides the AD(i dont want to void my warranty) so can any watch store do this? i searched and it seems fairly simple but i dont want to try it myself. I appreciate any help...thanks!

If it was me, I would go back to the AD I bought it from, and explain the situation, regardless of how the work was done in the first place. If you start going to other watch dealers, and having any work done at a non-AD, then you could really run into problems in the future, especially if the work is not done properly. That is just what I would do, but I am not really expert on these things, so I am really just giving advice from a moral standpoint rather than technical. If you intend to keep the watch for a long time, and will need advice and servicing later, the best thing you can do is to try and establish a good rapport with the AD.

thanks for the reply, this is my first watch so im not really sure about anything regarding these watches..ive been doing some reading on these forums...does anything go wrong with these watches that would require warranty work?

Not normally, but there are occasions when a warranty might be handy. Either if you have had bad luck and one or more of all the small parts inside your watch would brake or need replacement, or if you decide you want to sell the watch - then having all the documentation will improve your credibility.

Swapping the bezel for an aftermarket bezel should not void your warranty. In fact, the aftermarket bezels are usually genuine bezels that have just been milled out for the diamonds.

Anyways, you can just remove it yourself if you want. Its so easy a monkey could do it.

Use the correct size screwdriver so that you dont damage the screw heads (they are delicate).

All youve got to do is unscrew the eight little screws it and it pops right off.

THE AFTERMARKET BEZEL WILL ABSOLUTELY VOID THE WARRANTY. I HAD THAT PROBLEM WITH AN AFTERMARKET BEZEL ON MY CROSSWIND SPECIAL. ALSO STAINLESS STEEL IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO RE-SET THE STONES INTO, THEY NEED TO BE DONE WITH A LASER. ITS NOT LIKE GOLD THAT IS SOFT AND EASY TO DO. WHEN I BOUGHT MY DIAMOND SUPER AVENGER I MADE SURE I WAS GOING TO GET A FACTORY BREITLING BEZEL. BESIDES THE HUGE DIFFERENCE IN QUALITY, I WANTED TO KNOW THAT A STONE WOULDNT FALL OUT, BECAUSE THAT TOO HAPPENED WITH MY DIAMOND BEZEL ON MY CORSSWIND SPECIAL. AND IT WAS A NIGHTMARE TO GET FIXED.

YOU CAN BUY A FACTORY DIAMOND BEZEL ON A WATCH SLIGHTLY USED FO RWHAT YOU PROBABLY PAID FOR A NEW ONE WITH AN AFTERMARKET BEZEL. ALSO THE WATCHES WITH THE AFTERMARKET BEZELS HAVE A HORRIBLE RESALE VALUE. OFTEN TIMES ITS LESS THAN THE WATCH WITH A REGULAR BEZEL.

Where are you located? In the US we have the magnusson-moss act (sp?) that as far as I know, relates to this topic.

ok, i spend half my day dealing with the mag-moss act and no it does not apply here. the mag moss says thay can not void a warranty simply because you put an aftermarlet part on it, it usually applies to cars. as soon as you open the watch, its game over. they will say that changing the bezel is opening the watch. the mag moss act would be valid if they tried to void your warranty for putting an aftermarket strap on it and complaining it kept bad time. one has nothing to do with the other.

you can try it, i know my warranty claim was voided because i had an aftermarket diamond bezel on my crosswinds special. i wasnt surprised and paid for the service.

thanks for the info guys...the diamonds were set on a factory bezel, also just in case i need to do warranty work i have the original bezel to swap back...i have the contact info for one of the local ad's tech that no longer works there..so he can swap it for me whenever..

I KNOW THAT, BUT THATS NOT WHAT THEY WILL SAY. I DONT AGREE WITH IT, I HAVE HAD WARRANTY SERVICE DENIED DUE TO AN AFTERMARKET BEZEL. I AM SPEAKING FROM EXPIRENECE. I AM NOT SAYING I AGREE WITH IT, IM JUST TELLING IT LIKE IT IS

I would go the AD route if you are not confident with a screwdriver on such tiny screws.
This place is up on Cambie and they sell the best quality watchmaking screwdrivers

i got it from la swiss in pc...ive arranged for the old tech to swap them for me...so im not worried :lingsrock:
