hey guys, new to the forum but def not new to the watch world.
am a Mod on WUS and still not sure why it took me so long to join here.
please don't hold that against me.

I am looking to get another Breitling.
have had a few different ones and don't have one now and feel that I MUST HAVE
ONE IN THE COLLECTION. ;-)

anyways, I am really digging the look of the new black dial Super Avenger with stick indices and
the sub-dials that are similar to the Skyland.

question is, will it be too big on my 7.5" wrist?
my wrist is flat on top so maybe that helps.

I had a Skyland which I really liked but didn't really care for all the bling of it on the bracelet.
also had a Steelfish, twice, but still felt it was too small on my wrist.
go figure, 44mm and too small? maybe it was cuz of the small dial and short lugs?
even just had the new SS Seawolf and ordered the grey dial but just couldn't warm up
to the grey... it was too 'pretty' if that makes sense?
the grey was on the light side and appeared to be enameled.
in addition, i think it just ended up looking washed out since it blended too much with the case.
size was good for the new Wolf but beings so thick it was like a pimple on my wrist.
maybe an SA, while still being thick, would have a better look cuz the case is bigger which should
even out with the thickness?

my option now is to either get another Skyland or go for the new Super Avenger.
whichever one it is will be gotten on a black Ocean Racer strap.
(trying to keep it a little subdued)

anyone have any pics with the 2 models side by side so I can see the difference?

I would appreciate any info, feedback or insight that you can give.

with kind regards,
Steven

Hi Steven, your words about the Steelfish looking a bit small on you, certainly struck a chord with me as I was in the same boat........ and I've owned 3 Steelfishes! (1 1st gen 42mm one and 2 2nd gen 44mm models).

I have an SA myself and it's fits superbly. Obviously as you're clearly no newcomer to watches, I won't teach you to suck eggs by saying "there's no substitute to trying them on" , but as you know that is always the case. Having said that, I can say if you find the Steelfish OK but a little small, I'm pretty sure the SA will be ideal for you.

Steven,
The new Avenger Skyland is supposed to be 45.5 based on Breitlings site. Might be a little better than the 43.7/44 range. I understand what you mean..I tried on some at an AD and I already have a few 44mm watches, but these seem much smaller and my wrist is 7 1/8. Must be the shorter lug to lug.
have you looked at the Hercules? It's 44.8 I believe. Pretty nice looking and not too blingy!
http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... nal_5.html
I tried the super avenger on, and for me it was too big...but it still lays nice on the wrist. I usually go up to 46 at the max, but to each their own right!
I have a Crosswind Special in route, and it's a 43.7...I sure hope I don't realize I think it's too small when I get it! I've been drooling over it for a while.
Good luck in your endeavor!
Make sure to post up some of the new arrival, whatever it may be.

Chris

thanks guys.
I am really torn.

I also worry that while I might get used to the SA on my wrist, should I go that route, I don't
want it to overpower the other couple pieces in my collection and thus cause me not to
like those anymore?

I have...
Omega 45.5 PO orange bezel
Oris TT1 Small Seconds Diver (47mm case but only 44mm bezel so it wears smaller)
was hoping to get the new Steinhart Nav B chrono too

I was really considering an EVO but my boy Mark knows me and said that it will feel small to me
and that my bigger hands won't like the slippage on the crown as they are hard to grip.

that was something odd with the new Wolf too... while the crown is big, it was hard to grip.
maybe it was due to the seals inside the tube?
my Skyland seemed fine to me.

here's a link to a pic of a 48mm Alpina Regulator that I had...
awesome watch but I think I got rid of it cuz I was worried that one would make me
fall out of love with my other pieces that were smaller?

http://s158.photobucket.com/albums/t91/ ... 5Large.jpg

am I mental? :?

I suppose I am going to have to go to the local AD and waste their time on Monday.

Yeah you probably are mental  ...... but then hey, so am I as I have found that the larger pieces have tended to overpower the smaller ones............. in fact, to such an extent that my smallest watch is now 46mm!

BTW, that Alpina Regulator looks superb.

thanks 'Driver8'

that Alpina is a beauty but been gone for a few months now.
like most WIS, I have A.D.D. when it comes to watches. haha

went on http://www.breitling.co.jp/fitting/ and set up the new SA black dial on black OR
and it looks sick!
shoot, even the blue dial one on black OR looks sick.

hmm, wonder if I can talk my wife into stopping by the AD with me today while we are out?
i'll be going nuts til Monday waiting to get in there and try on a few.

The diameter definitely isn't going to be a problem on a wrist that size - you just need to be comfortable with the height - it's a fairly deep watch and sits' quite proud - but if you had a Skyland you are probably familiar with that.

You have an interesting collection - some watches that we don't see very often (I'm with Driver8 that the Alpina is very nice) and look forward to seeing more of you on here - you've already proven your worth!

Thanks Steven!

BTW I've just been looking for Alpina Regulators and I can't find the exact model in your pic. The white/silver part with the markers on yours now appears to be black, and they're now 46mm not 48mm. :? I guess yours was a slightly older version?

Nice in-house regulator movements too. Very cool.

thanks. :D

the pics on my photobucket link are just a few of the pieces I have had.
the list goes on and on.

and yes, for the money, that Alpina is awesome.
wish I had enough funds cuz i'd have kept that one.
maybe some day I'll get another as I really like the look of that regulator.

glad I could help with that Scammer thing too.

I guess I am just going to need to go to the AD and try them on.

did just read another thread on here and one guy posted something that I noted a long while back...
on the wrist a watch looks larger than it does if you look at yourself in the mirror.
likely another reason the Steelfish went bye-bye 2x... it looked tiny on me in the mirror.

the Skyland fit me well.
the Wolf was high, higher than anything else but not hateful.
i am thinking that beings the SA is bigger diameter, the proportions will be a bit more equal or leveled out?

Yeah, maybe

I'm the wrong person to ask as the SA just doesn't work for me - and I'll freely admit that I'm in the minority. For the size I'd take a Motors or a Legende every time (in fact I pretty much have).

The Skyland looks great on an OR Strap! In my opinion, better even that the PRO II. A guy at my AD just had one put on his, and loves it. Very few guys watches look better, more masculine or rugged than a Skyland with OR. Here's a link to one post with that combo:

Happy Hunting! A lot of the pleasure is definitely in the search for the perfect watch.
Cheers,
Carl

Given that the Alpina Regulator Extreme fits your wrist that well, I am absolutely certain the SA will be perfect for your wrist size! I personally found the SA acceptable on my wrist, but after a while, the overly thick chunkiness of the watch became a bit of a problem for me and my clothing and it would get pushed into my wrist a lot. My wrists are 6.75".

When I tried the Alpina on, it would not wrap around my wrist.. unlike you, my wrist is very round, and not flat on top, so watches tend to look larger on my wrist.

ok, here are is a reply to you guys...

Driver 8 - the Alpina Regulator that I had falls under the Extreme group.
there is a new Manufacture group out and those are 46mm.

mine was model # AL-650LBBB5AE6
here is a link...
http://www.alpina-watches.com/en/watch/ ... BB5AE6.htm

damnit, now you are making me miss it more. :-)

Spartan - YES, those pics help a lot!
thanks so much.
did want to ask... which has better lume, your Skyland or your new Super Avenger?
I get peeved if lume sucks and for the Skyland that I had, it was pale in comparison to my PO.

as it turns out guys, I WAS able to convince my wife to stop by the local AD while we
were out on Saturday, and that was no easy feat.
she hates my watch hobby/addiction, but she went anyways.
I tried on another new SS Seawolf in black to see if I would like it better than the grey dial
that I just sold... it was definitely better but not sure if I still want one.
I tried on another Steelfish, Evolution, a Skyland and a Super Avenger.
ok, so here is the response I got from my wife and the sales lady on each one (they agreed on all)...
Steelfish - way too small
Evolution - very nice but still on the smaller side
Skyland - good fit but still could maybe go bigger as it was on the edge for me
Seawolf - really nice and dial looks bigger than the Skyland so it wears better
Super Avenger - both said it was a perfect fit for me and looks right but they both agreed
they like it on the bracelet which is not really what I want.

so, I guess at this point I just need to figure out which one?!

I really wanted the one just like Spartan has, the new all black dial with chrome stick indices.
had my heart set on that one after mocking it up on a black OR on that japanese site.
and now, I can find the darn thing again.
can anyone post the link to it?
FOUND IT... http://www.breitling.co.jp/fitting/

the AD that I went to only had one SA in stock, it was the greyish blue dial with silver subs
and chrome arabic numerals; it actually looked pretty sharp and i was surprised that I liked it.
they also had a case of Breitlings that they bought from a store that was going out of business.
all of the ones in that case were 40% off.
I tried on some smaller Bentley but quickly took it off when I heard it was still over $4500 with the
discount. OUCH! they did have an older Ti Seawolf with the yellow dial on Pro I bracelet.
That was going for a little under $1900.
Had it been on rubber I might have snatched it up.
I asked it they'd sell it off the bracelet and she said no cuz it was a close-out piece.
oh well, I need to concentrate more on which SA to buy.

so, which SA do you guys think?
I am still thinking that new black on black OR would look sick! :-)

thanks again and all the best to you all.
-Steven

Yes, yes, yes! Black on OR would look stunning. Black on brown leather would look great, too. I just got a brown leather strap for my Seawolf, and am more than pleased with the look. :D
Not to mention that it is by far the most comfortable strap/bracelet I have ever had on any watch.
I had the OR strap on my Steelfish and my Seawolf, and it looks amazing on both. I can't help but think it would look even better on the SA, because the lug width is 24mm. The wider the better IMHO. Anyway, it sounds like you are having a lot of fun and getting lots of feedback. I find that using this forum for a "pre-purchase" advisory is a heck of a lot of fun!
Pics please upon purchase!
Cheers,
Carl
