Some of the pictures have been borrowed...I hope that's ok.
I've been looking at the Crosswind Special, different versions of the Evo and few others...

#1 I like the applied numbers and contrast of the brushed bezel and polished case...
Image

#2 Something about the black subdial strikes me. On a black strap this looks great!
Image

#3 I like the pushers/crown shape and the Roamn numerals are unique...but are they too dressy?
Image

#4 I love the arrangement of the subdials lower and the big date. The pushers are a little busy though...
Image

Blackbird removed from choices due to it being out of my price range

So which one would you choose and why? Just want to get some other opinions, experiences and rationale.

Thanks guys!
Christopher

I gotta tell ya, I'm a Blackbird fan, and I'm a Blackbird fan, because it's just a damn cool looking timepiece...IMHO, Breitling doesn't make a timepiece that isn't cool, in it's on light, but something about that Blackbird just demands a reaction...any reaction! 8)

I have that same exact Evolution (balck dial with silver subs) and it is fantastic looking in person.

I think the Chronomat is finer and a little more dressy of a watch than the other two.

The Crosswind Special and the Blackbird have the same basic dial appearance due to the same movement. If you want a big date and something in a dial other than black.. the Crosswind is it. If you favor the black dial and big date, the Blackbird is the choice. Now expecially since you can get this watch brushed or polished. I think the water resistance is better on the Blackbird than the Crosswind, but I could be wrong.

The Crosswind is discontinued and so the watches are going to be used and out of factory warranty, but cheaper. There is a two tone Crosswind special that is expecially nice and classy looking, but they are very desired and bring more $$$$.

Out of these, I'd go with the Blackbird. I've always liked the Blackbird and its big date, but haven't managed to get a decent deal for one yet.

I would definitely choose the last photo, the most recent Blackbird.
This watch, to me, is a Special Edition. Unique features:
1. One of the few Breitlings, other than the Bentley line, to have the Caliber 44
2. The large date at 12 o'clock is done with a black background to match the dial, and has white numerals. As far as I know, this is the only Breitling model to have other than a white background for the date
3. The unique back, with Blackbird written diagonally across the caseback
That's all I can think of for now, but this is a remarkable watch.
Cheers,
Carl

Id definitely take the blackbird. I like the dial configuration, and the bracelet is amazing. Other than that one, id take #2. The dial and sub colors are perfect, and I like batons. Ive never really been a fan of the arabics or the romans on the chronomat.

Given your lean toward that color scheme, I really like the Blackbird as well. :lingsrock:

Thanks for the input guys! I really like the Blackbird as well, but maybe I should have excluded this more grail-ish watch from the list  The other are more realistically affordable right now. Hmmm still confused.
I guess it's all what the individual likes really...But I like them all !

I like the slate grey dial Chronomat and that's the one I'd go with, although after seeing the pics of the polished blackbird, that would be a tough one to pass up.

#1 or #4 for me. I prefer the contrasting subdials.

As another less expensive alternative, there is the Hercules, but you need to be able to live without a date. With a bit of searching you can find them well under $2K.

I thought about the Hercules Mark, but funny thing is, I then realized that it had no date! I never realized how much I use the date daily on my watch at work until I was wearing one of my other watches without one...I kept looking at my watch and saying damn...no date!
That Hercules a great looking watch!
I still kick myself in the head for missing your grey dialed Evo...that was sweet!
