Hello Friends

i wonder if i could tap into your combined extensive knowledge and experience for a moment please. I am looking at a secondhand M1 at a local, respected Watch dealer, advertised as follows:-Breitling Chrono Avenger M1 E73360. Brushed titanium case 44mm diameter, water resistant to 1,000 meters. Quartz Breitling 73 movement, 1/10th second, 60 minute, 12 hour chronograph, split times by fly-back hands, yachting version with ten minute down down for Regatta departures.
Black dial with luminous numeral hour markers, silver sub-dials, date display.
Brushed titanium uni-directional bezel. Titanium bracelet with safety clasp. Box and papers dated April 2008.

It would be my first quartz 'Ling, so comments and views would be appreciated, especially with a view to battery replacement, cost, watertightness afterwards etc etc. Any M1 owners views especially welcome.

Thanks in advance chaps..............enjoy your weekend

I just picked up a second hand one from a private seller. It is a nice looking watch. The owner had the battery replaced after about 4 or so odd years and was charged 160 or 180 I forgot. But I think that probably included the maintinence as well. It has a nice satin nickel finish to it due to the titanium material. I haven't had a chance to utililze the features of it yet because I haven't read up on it yet. How much are they asking for it and how old is it? I heard servicing an automatic breitling would run close to 300 or 400. Hope that helps.

I have the M1 Quartz on a titanium bracelet and use it for work. The quartz movement is better for the abuse. The titanium case is also tough. I usually a wash it off with soap and water and it is good as new. The watertight feature on this watch is great. It has magnetic pushers so you can activate the chrono underwater. One of the few. I like mine, very durable.

Thanks Vushnick and Mah, that's very helpful.
They're asking £1650 for it and it 's about 9 months old with paperwork etc. Seems good to me and they guarantee it. I might see if they'll include a new battery and check what they would charge for it when it needs one next, eh?
I'll keep you posted on progress.
Good weekend chaps.

Another thig about the quartz. I don't have all my watches on a winder only one at a time. So the quartz is nice because I can throw it on without having to wind or set it. 1650.00 That sound like a decent price. A free battery change would sweeten the deal. In these hard times that should be doable. What color dial? Bracelet? Be sure to post pics if you bring it home.

You don't hear much about the M1 around here, so I was thrilled to see this thread. I absolutely love my yellow M1 even though it doesn't have the yachting functionality on it as I actually do race yachts, and really would have liked to have had that on there. It is a pretty big watch, and I think the fact that it's yellow makes mine all the more obnoxiously loud (which was sort of the point for me since my other one is a bit more subdued). Not being too familiar with the UK market, I'll let some of the more knowledgeable people tell you if that is a good deal, I just wanted to jump in to say that if you get it, you will really enjoy this watch!

The yachting function to my best knowledge is only the dial stamp. The watch movement functions the same. Look at the instruction book to set the countdown function. Or where the chrono second sweep starting point. To set it pull the crown all the way out, push the top chrono pusher and it will advance the sweep hand to any starting position. The min. recorder or the second hand will advance at the starting point of the new chrono sweep start position. All the chrono dials can be set that way too depending on where the crown is and what pusher you press. I have the white dial M1 my daily wear watch. Regards,Mark
