Post subject: | Should Obama get a Breitling? |
There’s an interesting post in the General Watch Discussion area of this site, which I’m surprised hasn’t generated more discussion. President Obama apparently wears a Jorg quartz watch given to him by the Secret Service. I gather these watches can be purchased for a few hundred bucks. Now, that’s cool and politically astute (Bad Boy Billy C loves watches, but never wore anything flashy during his Presidency). I read on a website that the President’s watch has the US SS logo on it, and is worn as a symbol of union with those assigned to his protection. Given the threats from nutjob white supremacists, if you take a moment to think about it, that’s heavy sh!t. But on a lighter note, it’s got me thinking: Maybe there is a cool mechanical watch that President Obama could wear, which wouldn’t raise the ire of the reactionary press. He’s an internationally savvy guy, is fit and active, and in second place to the influence of the economic crisis on the mass consciousness would be environmental concerns – I apologise to all Breitling fanatics, but I reckon an IWC Cousteou Aquatimer would be right on the money. Perhaps I’m wrong, and there is a suitable Presidential Breitling…any thoughts? |

None chump - but this is a watch forum, he's the new US President, he wears a chronograph which has featured prominently in recent photographs.... It’s just a bit of interesting trivia for watch enthusiasts I guess. Probably makes no difference to you. You’re too clever… |

I've got to say - I don't like the look of those Jorg thingies... If the Secret Service gave it to him I wonder if there's some "non-standard" modification? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'd say he should wear a Yellow Emergency with UTC would make a real statement (always prepared). ![]() |

Let's be honest here guys, ANY Breitling is fit for a President! ![]() A solid gold Bentley might be a little ostentatious for The Man, but I'm thinking a nice Chronomat (SS, black dial, roman numerals) on croco would be just about right. It'd show he's in still touch with the layman (it's not mega-expensive), while also demonstrating he's a man of CLASS! |

As I have posted before, Obama is going to receive a Vulcain. I think it is an unbelievable watch and have inquired with Vulcain reps about a non-anniversary model. http://thewatchery.blogspot.com/2009/01 ... -with.html |

In terms of this thread - I think a Chronomat would suit him well |

Didn't I read a post on here about a guy who knew someone with the Secret Service emblem on the dial of a Ling??? Or am I crazy? Could be crazy, but that'd be a fitting watch...Signed, Crazy ![]() |

![]() want to weigh him down with an oversized watch (sorry, Driver); it might impede his ability to sign important papers. ![]() a nice Chrono Superocean? A moderate size, yet with a strong presence. Steve |

Well I was trying my hardest on the say to identify the watch he was wearing but do not have the facilities to freeze frame or such, it was either white gold platinum or stainless with a black face and it looked to be either a chronograph or one with several complications as the dial had sub dials, it was on a black strap as well and looked to be about 44mm dia, anyone any ideas if they have seen the images? Edit, ahh, google is a wonderful thing! Here is the watch her was wearing I am pretty sure, and it was the watch mentioned by the originator of the thread, a secret service watch! ![]() ![]() I think he should have the watch I have, nice large date to remember important appointments!! Knowing one of his major priorites is bringing back manufacturing and industry to America I would have thought that an RGM would have been a good choice, hamilton is swiss and Timex made in China and I see the mov in this was is Japan, would have been a great way to advertise American expertise, just like the pens he now uses, given to him by an American firm, Cross but really only American by name as they are made in China, a nice Bexley fountain pen, or a Custom Edison fountain or rollerball made in America would have been great choices, similar prices as well! BTW, this is not a knocking china or Asia thing(I have plenty of things from the far east I love! Just a thought on how to buy American and support the local economy!) Fun thread! |

Decent looking watch. Easy to argue the pro's and con's of the piece. Pro - Shitty economy, man of the people, etc... Con - Does the watch fit the position? The recommendation of a Chronomat is perfect, in my opinion. |

It's probably got a secret transponder built in that will summon the secret service to swarm his position ![]() Kind of like a "life alert" for VIP's ![]() |
