Hello all, I just read in the latest edition of Watchtime Mag. They tested several popular models of "HIGH END" dive watches and the only one that had a major failure was the Breitling Super Ocean Steel Fish. It is the only one in the test of nine watches that the Crystal Shattered under the tested pressure. The Fortis scored the same as Breitling and it is Half the price, and also has an ETA movement just like the "LING". Any comments?

Suprising......Especially a failure.

I own a Forits Flieger with the 7750 movement. For the money, I would consider the purchase of another Fortis product if I was in the market. I've enjoyed mine very much! I'd go with the B-42 Cosmonaut Chrono if I were to buy another Fortis.

Here's an old picture...

I wonder why they chose the Steelfish? as the seawolf goes deeper? Image

It's possible the crystal had a flaw which allowed a pressure crack to develop and shatter it, sapphire is tough but brittle and does break. Could have happened to any of them.

As for value well many brands use a 7750 some costing in excess of £5,000 so if you want a watch that everyone knows the name get a Breitling, if you're not fussed about others knowing the name get a Fortis or Oris for value but if you want a watch that just tells the time get a Swatch. The value is what you think it is.

Yes, I believe that the Ling could have had a minor defect either with the case or the crystal. But in defense of the Steel Fish it did keep running during the whole test. Upon closer examination of the artical they tested a second Steel Fish that performed perfect. So I guess it was just a Fluke.

That's interesting... i guess it does sound like a fluke, but makes me question the QC a bit.

I think for the whole package, design, style, quality and performance, Breitling is at the top of my list.. that's why i made this site :)
