Can anyone tell me how to confirm what model year a Breitling is? Is it somewhere hidden within the serial number on the watch or in the paperwork that it comes with? Right now I'm just going with what my AD has told me. I have no reason to doubt him, just curious if it is written somwhere.

The date of manufacture is between the lugs at the bottom end (i.e. the "6" end of the watch case). You'll need to remove the bracelet or strap to see it. There are 4 digits that represent the week and year of manufacture. For example, 3608 would denote the 36th week of 2008.

Yup

Although bear in mind that's the manufacture week of the bracelet, not necessarily the manufacture date of the watch.

You can tell the watch from the code between the lugs at 6 as Driver8 said.

I assume the date of manufacture located between the lugs is not necessarily the model year. I was told that with brands like Rolex, the model year is like that of a new automobile. That is to say the 2009 models go on sale in 2008. Essentially a watch sold with a date stamp of 3408 (34th week and year 2008) would in fact be sold as a 2009 model. Can anyone verify this?

Breitling dont really have "model years." As far as I know, a change can take place at any time.

Correct. The date between the lugs is just the date it was made. It may well then sit around for months before it's sold.

I've tried to discover that for quite some time - never have found anything convincing. We need some people with late 90s / early 00s watches to check their lugs - I'm sure we can figure it out!

The earliest example of a stamped watch I've seen is 2002. I currently have a B-1 from 2000 (Chronomter, but not SuperQuartz - papers from 2000) that has no stamp, but some models were stamped earlier than others it seems.

In case any of you have not seen it.. I posted this article on the dating thing ages ago when I made this site:
