Which Superocean model are you looking at? There are a few that fall under that category such as the heritage and steelfish for example. After months of research I just bought my first Breitling which is a 2009 Superocean Steelfish. It has rugged stats and a simplicity to the dial (I chose the black dial) that make it one of the best looking Breitling watches available. If you want to see pictures, go to the models tab located on the home page of this site. Navigate to the Aeromarine models and click on the "Superocean Steelfish current". Keep in mind that the only picture in that series that is of the current 2009 model is the one with the second hand that has the arrow shaped tip. The older models have the little square with an "antennae" on the tip of the second hand. Not sure why they are there.
The Steelfish has no chrono function which I like. Unless you find yourself timing things a lot it's just a "bell and whistle" that is not needed. I find the chrono models too busy looking for my taste. Not to say they don't have their place as some people use the chrono function or like a busier dial. I subscribe to the "less is more philosophy".
To sum it up, I love this watch and highly recommend it. In my research it has only one real competitor which id the Rolex Deepsea. The Rolex is about $10,000 CAD where the Steelfish is $3900 CAD before a negotiated discount with an AD.

I have the older model superocean (2007) and like the dial more on the older style. It seems more balanced to me... But thats ofcourse my aestethic taste....

The little square allows them to put a lume dot on it for visibility sake ;) Now it's a pointer (with lume). I think I like the pointer more. :)

I guess you are right, too many superoceans so I should be more specific. I guess the one I was thinking of was the regular superocean which has the bolded 12, 6, 9 and the older ones were all bolded. The Steelfish is a nice watch but my asian wrist is too small for that watch lol.

I also have the "old" dial and prefer it over the new model. Both I think the date window is better placed on the old dial but I also think that the "full" numbers look better than the new, hollow ones.

I dont own one, but I think the new one is great. I like it more than the old style, even though people seem to have a problem with the cut off 15.

I'm not a big fan of the new hollow stenciled numbers. It especially doesn't work on the yellow and the orange dials IMHO.

I fully agree with you Mario - the hollwo numbers works on a dark dial, but not on a bright dial.

Agreed. I find the light ones lack a bit of legibility.
