I know I do not post with the frequency that many of you do, but I'd like to take this opportunity to post something semi-personal. The Breitling AD that I have used for the better part of the past decade had to let one of their top people go. This is due to the economy. Now, I am by no means "married" to the idea of using just one sales person or AD, but I was comfortable with this gentleman. So much so, we had an understanding of the number of pieces and the frequency that I would purchase, especially the LE's that I love so much. He would set them aside and simply call me with the details so we could work out my purchase. This gentleman made things rather simple and streamlined. Now I'll have to develop another relationship, which means negotiating with a stranger who doesn't know me. L.T., I hope you land on your feet (as I know you frequent this Forum). Best of luck to you. Warmest regards, -jbbb |

As we all look for the best deal we can it's easy to lose sight of the bigger picture that fewer and fewer luxury goods are being sold, profits are rapidly eroding and it's not just the balance sheets of faceless corporations that are hit, it's the everyday man and woman in the street. |

Roff, As always, you put it ever so much better than I could. It makes me wonder about all of the rumored (extra) price increases. I know enough about economics to know that this is a necessary reality, but it will certainly drive many who could swing it before away from the AD counter. On top of that, the departure of those like my 'friend' whom I trusted, only to be replaced by unknowing and unaccustomed sales people who have no idea how to handle long time customers. Mind you, the AD is still in business (an AD who does not work on commision, BTW). Oh well.... |

In all honesty I'm not surprised to hear that. As I've said on a few threads before, these watches are PURELY luxury goods, and as much as we (as enthusiasts) love them I'm pretty sure they'd be the first thing we stop buying if we fell on hard times. Now just think about "average Jo" who rarely buys an expensive watch.............. It's no wonder that with the global economy as it is, AD's (and by extension, their people) will suffer. I really wouldn't not be surprised if a few go out of business this coming year. Let's hope not, and I also wish your guy JBBB a speedy return to the workforce. |
