I just discovered this model recently, and my jaw almost hit the floor when I first saw it... it had all my favorite Breitling features in one watch...
1) applied logo
2) arabic numbers
3) "B" tail on second hand
4) 44mm size
5) Steel!
6) display back
7) contrasting subdials

Then it hit me and my heart sank... its quartz :( Not saying quartz is all bad, but if this watch had a 7750 based auto movement in it, it would possibly be the most perfect all-around watch I've ever seen, IMHO of course. And $3k for quartz just aint happening.

Anyone else feel the same way?

I still think it's a beautiful watch. I get what you are saying though.

Well it's a Meca-quartz so it's only half quartz :D

The standard watch is quartz but the chronograph function is mechanical.

I believe only 600 of the Chrono Avenger Sixty-Nine were produced...

a Piguet movement... almost enough to justify having a half-Quartz watch...

it's a discontinued movement. though, so you have to think of the potential long-term service issues.

Plus at least one LE of 100 or 150 with American flag.

The one you REALLY want is the Chrono Avenger Rattrapante (model number G34360), it's ALL that the CA 69 is, BUT it's equiped with a fully automatic rattrapante movement and a white gold bezel. Oh and it's also an LE of only 25. Roff and I have both been looking for one of these for years, and I have never seen one come up for sale.

A truly great piece.

Unfortunately, that one is only for day dreaming. :(

Yes i agree, a lovely looking watch, the tricompax layout and the contrasting dial is what does it for me.

The price however, is too high for me

Well I'd like to test that theory by seeing one for sale

The gold bezel will push the price, but I'm not sure what I would do if it was actually available.

LOL....I felt the same about the Avenger Seawolf Chrono. I love the look of the watch, fell in love with it, even more so then the Super Avenger. Couldn't decide between the two, until I found it was Quartz! Its still a great watch, and I understand thas it has its reasons why it uses SuperQuartz, but I could not get my self to spend that much on a Quartz. I love having automatics, and having such and intricate tiny little machine on my wrist. Its a great feeling when you hear and feel it click and whirl.

Great info guys, as usual. Firstly I didn't know it was a mechanical chrono module on a quartz base ... thats kinda cool, and makes the $3k pricetag a "little" easier to swallow. Secondly, I had never heard of the CA Rattrapante either. So my dream watch "does" exist, although it seems I am third in line if one ever pops up for sale LOL!

True, but I think rarity alone would cause a few collectors to dip a little deeper into their pockets to try an acquire it if one did ever turn up on the open market.

Let's be honest it'd only take a minimum of 2 idiots like us to be bidding and it'd probably go for quite a bit more than the parts alone would suggest. (Obviously your deeper pockets would win the day though Roff! )

We can only hope

I actually have a number in my head that I tell myself I won't go beyond, but whether I would actually stick to it if one came up is another story.

PS.
