I may be way out of the loop here. I looked at Breitlings some time ago and fell in love with the SuperOcean Steelfish. At the time, I was quoted a MSRP of $2495 roughly. I've always kept a watch fund, and now since I am getting closer to being able to make a purchase, I have been shopping around again and I was surprised to see the price jump to $2995. Did this happen fairly recently (with in the last year or 2)?. Also, how much realistically can I expect an AD to knock off the MSRP. When I looked at a SuperOcean this week the AD knocked 15% off right off the bat.

Thanks!

Yup, Lings and other brands have increased prices due to inflation and the rise in metal prices; partly due to other countries' demand for such raw materials.

Cant comment on individual discounts though. Sometimes UK ADs have "discount outlets" where they sell new or ex-display watches with the occasionally damaged box/docs. I got a 30% discount off my Monaco as it was ex-display but otherwise 100% complete and undamaged.

In the US anything less than 25-30% discount is silly. Check out the group buy thread or PM jnelson3062 (I think -- sorry justin if I got the # wrong) for his guy who MANY of us have used -- unfortunately he is in Philly, so get a Jersey PO Box to avoid tax. :lingsrock:

Good to know, thanks. What is a ballpark upper range on discounts? 40%? 50%??

50% isn't going to happen (at least for the watch that you are interested in), 40% is really pushing it unless there is a special short time promotion or you find an AD who is prepared to go against Breitling policy. Historically they have been around, but as Breitling USA is starting to come down hard on those ADs they won't be so common.

50% aint gonna happen. 40% isnt gonna happen either. Generally speaking (and barring any type of special discount sales or the like), the upper limit is gonna be about 30%. End of story.

BTW, even 30% isnt easy to get either unless you get a referral or happen to get lucky by having a generous local AD.

and nor should more than 30% happen as all it does is devalue the brand if everyone can get that higher discount.

all for not paying over the odds but if everyone gets 30% just reduce the rrp by 30% and dont discount (i know that isnt practical as it has many other consquences) but my point is valid.

also if you dont feel the watch is worth full retail and as such if discounts werent available you wouldnt consider the watch my personal opinion is you shouldnt be buying it anyway. (ps this is different from cant afford it or prioritise other things)

high discount is like any perk it should be earned and is a bonus not a right

just my opinion though.

I dont really thik Breitling cares too much about devaluing the brand; all they want
is to be #1, which means they will do "whatever" they can to put out more and more Breitlings on peoples wrists.

I mean when COSTCO starts to sell LINGS..... I remember a few years back, COSTCO started selling OMEGAS. Ever
since that time my respect for OMEGA watches just isnt up there any more!

is costco an AD? as i didnt think it was!!!

and no they wont just put as many on wrists and sacrifice price i just think that is BS sorry but its quite clearly not their strategy otherwise there would not have been a 15% rise last year.

the price rise keep happening not only to take account of changing cost factors (be it steel or forex rates) but also to try and nullify discounts!!
