hi everyone - I saw this show up in an auction recently:

Initial thoughts were that it must be a redial as I've never seen anything similar, though a bit of online sniffing around shows there was a similar one with missing bezel, which was serviced last year and posted on FB by the watchmaker:

Things that make me wonder...
  • It's got just SWISS and not T SWISS T at 6
  • I don't recall seeing a Chrono-matic (other than Navitimer) with numerals instead of batons
  • There don't appear to be many photos of a similar watch online... can't see it in catalogs etc
  • The marks on the dial at 1, 2 and 4 on the auction and the service watch look like it could be the same dial

Has anyone seen one of these before? Is it some short-lived mid-70s variant that bombed in the looming quartz crisis, or a fake-o?

Your “similar one” is the same one. Compare the lume patterns in the indices. Same dial.
