I doubt I'll be trying one on until things get better with the pandemic, Fred. Just to be clear, though -- I think the SOH '57 is a fantastic looking watch, and I'm sure that this will continue to be my reaction when I finally get to see one in the metal.
My objection to the bezel markers is certainly not gratuitous. I have always loved the bezel markings on the original 1957 Superocean, and later on the SOH -- just so unique and classic. For me, that bezel sets those watches apart from the legions of look-alike dive watch bezels. So, I love the aesthetics in that regard -- but, from a functional standpoint, the slightly wider quarter-hour markers make it all really work.
I can only surmise that the decision to change this was the result of a conscious process, and I find that to be both surprising and disappointing. Keeping the markers intact would have completely nailed it. But, what the heck -- that's just one man's opinion.
