Post subject:  Clapping
So I was at the Kansas v. Tenn game today and did quite a bit of clapping due to the work Kansas did on Tenn. I now have a Steelfish (and love it (and will post pics soon)) and was wondering if I could do any damage to the watch with simply clapping. I was kinda paying attention to it and didn't think it would hurt it, but I assume you all would know best.

I dont believe clapping will damage your watch. It is a b17 movement

I got into a physical altercation with someone..you can see this in a help forum..and fyi for future ref...any issues post them in the breitling help..not being fussy but it will help you with a quicker response.

Someone lunged themselves at me I blocked them and they obviously fell...after that I put the watch to my ear..and heard the b13 valjoux eta 7750 zips and whirs...I asked members if it was ok.

They said it was just the soul of the watch. If anything check to see if it is within COSC standards +/- 4-6 seconds...and check it against quartz or digital.

If all fails...bring it to An Authorized (Authorised for out of U.S) Dealer for regularion or send to Breitling..

I wouldnt worry enjoy!

I play [video game] drums with mine on and it seems to throw the timing off by a couple of seconds if I really go at it. No permanent damage though. Clapping should have little to no effect on it.

I wouldn't worry much. I shoot several weapons, run and swim on a weekly (sometimes daily, if time allows) basis, and wearing Breitlings has become the norm for me. While not exactly the same activities as clapping, my Breitlings hold up quite well to these conditions. My guess is that you'll be fine, as the other members have pointed out.

Ok, another thing. I make a lot of hand milkshakes. That means i shake them by hand. Could this be bad for the B13?

It'll be fine.

The time that you run into problems are when you have serious g-forces. Things like golf drives are starting to get into iffy territory, but clapping, or shaking is fine.

Great question. I nearly opened up a wound on my wrist at the Stanley Cup playoffs last year during the continuation of my Red Wings dynasty (I do not own them of course, but I am a die-hard fan!). Gald to hear that there is no real harm!!Image

Actually, I doubt that would cause too many problems - I mean if it's an urgent job and it's inconvenient to take your Ling off in the toilet at work (say a hot secretary has been bending over the photocopier for hours), then it's only gonna be a few minutes of abuse, right?

I'd say golf & drums are a no go long term - I know I've played golf & the drums (total death metal attack for about an hour), and heard a tad too much "wobble". I'm sure it's fine every now and then, but such activities can't do any automatic movement much good over several years.

C’mon Roff – don’t be a prude dude!

I’ve noticed several references to “family friendly” on recent posts. Well:

a) This isn’t the Disney Channel – we’re talking about expensive watches. Indeed, it’s not even like were discussing something the whole family can take part in – like sailing, driving etc. I really don’t get the “family friendly” line. I dare say most people would question the sensibility of giving a kid a five grand watch.

b) I reckon most well adjusted kids who are old enough to appreciate mechanical watches and who understand a humorous expression like the “flugelhorn” comment above will be OK.

c) If this “family friendly” line is somehow related to the limited edition application – let me tell you, the Swiss are very easy going, and enjoy a laugh. They also like their kids to be well adjusted – not cocooned in someone else’s morals.

Sure, a Mickey Mouse Watch Club forum doesn’t need crude innuendo – but enthusiasts of high end watches don’t require moral policing either.

Carlos, I respect your opinions, but let's be clear:

This site is owned by admin, he establishes what is and isn't acceptable and Driver8 and I as moderators will enforce that. Admin has repeatedly said that he wants a family friendly atmosphere here and not only will I enforce that I 100% agree with him - as another member has said he doesn't want to worry about his 9 year old son reading the forum over his shoulder. There is an off topic and a funnies category here where expectations are slightly different than on the main Breitling thread.

I don't want to start editing or deleting posts, and neither do Driver8 or admin, but we will if we have to.

If that makes you uncomfortable I'm sorry - maybe this isn't the right place for you.

Fair enough Roff – I certainly understand the need to maintain standards, and of course you guys can decide what those standards should be and how they should be enforced. Moreover, there is no shortage of other material on the net for flugelhorn players…

I take your comment concerning other site categories on board – and I too respect your opinions.

Nonetheless, I’m not sure it’s accurate to describe the flugelhorn material as being “in the gutter”. I imagine Canada is like Australia in that you can open any major newspaper and find similar material – and God help the Free World if we’re ever worried about our kids looking over our shoulder as we read a newspaper!

Enough said.
