I was browsing LinkedIn today and saw there is another webcast scheduled for 8/26. There’s also a video teaser with what appears to be a chrono with a black case and red crown. The dial on the watch says endurance on it so I’m going to assume it’s something to do a triathlon squad or something similar to that. I would love to see the black case made of Breitlight but I don’t know if there are any plans to ever use that again after the Skyracer and Hurricane models.

I agree, I’ll wake up and just look for a recap online.

It looks like they brought back the Breitlight case and put a chrono in it.

What is everyone's thoughts on this?

At first glance I thought they were Casio G-Shocks!

I wonder why the Wings came back... Since the wings were all but retired.

The wings have stayed on the avenger series.

I watched the recording today. The intro was hokey, but I suppose that's what they were going for. "Could one of you guys borrow me your mountain bike?" Frankly, I found the whole approach to this video hokey and off-putting. It probably resonates with the target market for this watch, if so, then I guess it's brilliant. I'm not a triathlete, so I'm clearly not the target.

The Endurance Pro is interesting. At first glance I was really intrigued and thought it might fit my need for a rugged outdoor activity watch, but upon closer inspection I found several design elements that I dislike. For example, why make the "6" larger and then bisect it with the lower subdial so that only half of it remains? Do I really need half of a big numeral 6 to know what time it is when one of the hands points at the bottom of the watch? The 10 and 2 are also mostly covered with the other subdials, yet not so much that you couldn't cram 40% of the numerals onto the dial. I have a design background, so I'm more keen on those aspects than the average bear. The solution of covering up half the number is so wrong that a first year design student would get a failing grade for it. Omitting the 2, 6 and 10 would have been a much better solution than the compromise solution that's on the watch.

The EndurancePro is yet another watch that is anchored in an old Brietling. At least this one is reimagined rather than reissued. Personally, I think the whole re-edition thing is way overplayed. Are they completely out of new ideas? I know I'm in the minority here, because all the re-editions seem to be selling and there's a lot of buzz about them on the forums. I just have a hard time with a company who indicates through its current offerings of so many re-editions that its best days are behind it. One re-edition is a novelty; a whole line of them is a market indicator.

I also don't want a luxury watch strap made out of old fishing nets for $150. Call me crazy.

I also dislike the ambassadors. The Endurance Pro promo video on the Breitling website is mostly footage of their ambassadors swimming, running and biking with only a few seconds' coverage of the watch itself. I know what those activities look like, I clicked on the video to see the watch, not people you are paying to wear it. My bad. It makes me wonder how much cheaper would this watch be without paying famous people to be in the videos? Perhaps watch videos could just be about...I don't know...watches?

Again, I'm not a triathelete, so it's okay that I don't like the direction this product is going. I'd love to hear from triathletes to see if it resonates with them or not.

They say if you don't have anything nice to say, then it's best to say nothing at all.

Therefore.....

Indeed I have a $300 Casio Mudmaster (that I got on a cruise with onboard credit) with an actual compass. One ad I saw made a big deal about the old school “pulseometer” function...I think I’m capable of multiplying my 30 second pulse by 2 on my own, though.

Previous paragraph not withstanding, I’d like to like this watch, but wish it had something to offer offer my Casio besides being available in yellow. :)

I can’t say I’m a huge fan but I don’t hate it. The biggest plus for me is the return of the Breitlight case. I can say that the material is extremely comfortable and half the time I don’t even feel like I’m wearing a watch when I have on my Skyracer. With that being said, it just seems like such a niche market that I just don’t know I fully understand what the demand will be for this watch. It just seems like a stretch at $3k when there are much cheaper alternatives. I get that there are plenty of alternatives to all the watches we own but who will really wear a $3k watch when working out? I may be wrong, but I just think it’s a stretch.

On the comment about paying $150 for a NATO strap, the price is in line with what Omega is charging and now owning a econyl strap, I can say that the quality is outstanding and they look great. I also like the possibility of being able to buy the red rubber strap finally for my Airborne if they do make it available since it was previously only on the Ironman Superocean.

Overall, I’m not completely against it but then again, my workouts consist of me riding my Peloton and I’m not out doing any marathons or triathlons.
