Hi everyone, I am interested in getting an older Aerospace in the 40mm range and have found one on Chrono24 which was manufactured in the year 2000. However, I was wondering about the longevity of Breitling quartz movements (as I am planning to use it for many years to come). Would like some thoughts on this. Thanks!

I had one of these around 2002, never had any issue with it and changed the battery once during the time I had it. however the gold bits do wear down over time whilst rubbing on surfaces etc.

The movement in the watch could be an ETA - not a proprietary Breitling movement. Breitling refused to repair/replace an older Miyota Y652 quartz movement on an Intruder (1998 - 1999 vintage). Check out the availability of new or used ETAs as required if your (prospective) watch should need one.

I have a 1994 era Aerospace with the gold bezel bits. The watch still rocks the original ETA movement, the watch & bezel bits still look great, and I enjoy wearing the watch to this day.

After about 1990, and when the larger lower display was implemented, the movements are all proprietary and unavailable. Now also unavailable from Breitling but they will do a super quartz upgrade at a reasonable price. Prior to 1990 the Aerospace (early models called Navitimer) used a smaller lower display and an upgraded ETA movement is available aftermarket for that. 988.333. It has a slightly upgraded display and cost less than $200. You can use it in the later models but looks a bit strange with the smaller characters in the larger lower display. Usually these movements last for many years.

Honestly i never have issues with breitling quartz. I own a jupiter, a b2 and an airwolf since few years and the only maintenance i realize is battery change.

I have given Breitling more than a few chances with Quartz. Had a B1 that I purchased from Costco in 2003 and it lasted around 4 years before the module died. Took it back for a full refund. Purchased a B-50 in 2017 and had 3 different issues with the displays. Got it all sorted but sold it a few weeks ago as I do not trust the superquartz modules over a long period of time.

I have had my Aerospace since 2009. Changed the battery twice so far. Each one lasted around 5-6 years. I send it in to Breitling for the battery change and they check the movement and replace the gaskets as part of the service. It's still running great and averages less than 5 seconds off per year.
