In this tough times, there is a new Breitling relaunch! Very nice :lingsrock:

The Top Time is back ! Originally launched in the 1960's for a young and trendy audience, the new Top Time keeps its daring look with one of the most recognizable dials ever made, fondly nicknamed "Zorro" by collectors. Limited to 2000 pieces and available online first. On demand with your retailer at a later stage. It comes with 41mm stainless steel case and retails for CHF 4950 . Hmmmm.... I'm still absorbing this. Isn't this piece really a re-incarnation of the "Sprint"?

I like the retro vibes of this piece and at $4,990, the price is pretty appealing.

Good luck with release, Georges. Unfortunately I am really not into new watch releases at the moment, busy dealing with the coronavirus here in the Big Apple.

Toptime & Sprint had these dials, Jim

it isn't a re-Edition, but very much inspired by brand icons of the later 1960s (hands were typical for TopTime Racing, Datora & Chrono-Matic; case is very close to the design of the TopTime 810 Mk2)

Looking at this again today, I may be in the minority but I would’ve still have liked to see a date at 6:00. There’s plenty of room on there and I get the DNA of this model didn’t have the date but I think there’s plenty of room to have one.

Here’s also another question for Fred, I just noticed that this will be the first Breitling available from
H o d I n k e e, is the plan to have them as an authorized dealer of all models soon?

not as a regular AD for the complete product line (or not planned to be). how a future sales network will look after covid-19 is anyone's guess.
the relationship between Georges & H wasn't an easy one for years, good that this has been resolved; you may like H or not, they are a hugely important factor in the market.

the date question is similar to watch sizes, there is no "right" or "wrong" here, just different tastes - the only relatively wide criticism we hear in response to the TopTime launch is "too big, why couldn't you do it in 38mm" and "way! too small, anything below 44mm is a girl's watch", about evenly distributed ;)

just two more dimensions for the Zorro: lug-to-lug is 51mm, lug width is 20mm

I think that's right. I used to regard it as a necessary function in a watch, but the more watches I've acquired the less I want the date function, since setting a date-watch plucked out of the rotation for its time in the sun is more laborious than for one without. (Of course I realise that one could wear a date-watch set to the right time but ignoring the date, but most WIS are too OCD to be able to do that ...)

Is this the first time Breitling has done an on-line only sales? I think that's an interesting strategy. I've been interested in several different models only to find out that when I go to an AD and try them on, they aren't what I thought they would be for one reason or another.

it was planned o be „online only“ originally, now there‘s actually no other channel in most countries - although feedback by AD is so good that Georges has changed strategy and will supply watches to the AD network when it re-opens

I’ve got no issue with h o d I n k e e except that I can’t honestly read any of their reviews of watches they sell on their site and believe them. It’s not just an issue with this watch but for all the brands that they are authorized to sell.

But getting back to the watch, I know what you’re saying Fred when you just can’t win everyone over. I mean, overall I like the watch but it’s not anything I would add to my own collection. I do wonder how it would look on a mesh bracelet though.

Hi guys, I’ve been waiting for a new Top Time from Breitling. Im a big fan of their retro releases and have the 806 reedition and ordered the Avi copilot from my AD. I wonder when that will finally come!?
However I’m unfortunately vert disappointed in this Top Time release. Too darkng and kind of looks like a bowtie. Dont know who is the audience for this but I’m certainly not. I wish they das brought a real Top Time chronograph with panda or reverse panda dial. Such a pityty as I was really hoping for that
