Post subject:  Crown thread worn

I’ve had my Super Avenger 7 years now and the crown has gone for the 2nd time, it just pops back out when you try to screw it down.
Sent it back to Breitling who say threads are worn and needs a new internal case and crown.
Is this a common issue?
It seems very odd for this to happen twice in this time for a watch of this quality.

I wouldn't say it's a common issue to have a crown go twice in 7 years. Perhaps you're over tightening it a little, or pushing on it too much when attempting to engage the threads. Or maybe you've just been unlucky. Very difficult to tell unfortunately, but no it's not overly common.

I’m not happy with the almost £500 bill I’ve received to repair it !
I’m very careful when winding so not to even remotely overtighten it.
They are saying the threads are worn so I can’t even claim it through insurance as that’s wear and tear.
I bought a £300 Tissot about 15 years ago when I was 19-20, I wore it for a year or two and gave it to my dad who still wears it and it’s never had an issue.
I’ve since then had an Omega Speedmaster, Super Ocean Heritage and my Super Avenger and my SA is the only one I’ve had an issue with and it’s the same issue twice.
Something isn’t rite.

Very strange, and I've no answers for it I'm afraid. There's nothing about the SA to suggest it'd be more susceptible to crown thread wear compared to any other watch. It's the same principle and the same steel as any other Breitling. You could always get an independent to take a look for you as a second opinion if you don't mind going outside of the Breitling network.

I did.. I went to a small I dependant where I live, family business it’s been on the go from before I was born.. he slated the quality of Breitling for the cost of it.
I took it to The Watch Lab too who agreed that it’s very unusual to happen twice and something isn’t rite but ultimately it doesn’t help because they have to send it to Breitling anyway.

I had this same issue recently repaired on my Super Avenger but the crown also fell right off the watch. Happened in Costco went to adjust the date and it popped off and rolled under a pallet took me a few mins to fish it out.

Well I had a full service done but if I remember it was about 300ish dollars extra on top of the full service. Cause it was just short off $1100 in total.

That’s around my quote only mine is £ not $ so a bit more expensive, mine is £1140.
Did you question why that happened or was it your fault for over tightening ?

No I never did question it I had been lax and never had a full service done in 7 years since buying just figured they wore down or possibly broke. I mean the watch is a beast and it’s served me well even hit it on a corner of a granite counter top and the counter broke not my watch
