Post subject:  Service Question

I just received my Flying Fish from BUSA after a complete overhaul. I noticed they changed the date wheel, such that the font of the numbers is different than the original.

Is this something I should make a big deal about, or just forget it?

Thanks!

Did they give you a breakdown of what they'd done at the service, and why the date wheel needed changing?

Assuming there was a legitimate reason (and wasn't just changed "by mistake".... which would be highly unlikely) the chances are that the date wheel font has been changed over time and the one they put in is now the only available service part.

If I was you I'd get the service report to find out why it was replaced, and then you could always give BUSA a call to see if there was a reason why the replacement has a different font. If an original one is available then I'm sure they'd replace it for you.

The AD sent it in, and I never received a breakdown of all the repairs. This is seemingly the new font that they’re using on the chronomat models, as it perfectly matches the font on the Breitling website.

I’m wondering if having this date wheel will affect the value of the watch.

As an aside, people have asked about crystal replacements. In this case, getting a new crystal was $300, on top of the normal cost of overhauling the watch.

I don't know how it works in the USA but I always prefer to deal with BUK directly, as these sorts of non-communication seem more common when you add an AD as intermediary into the mix. As Driver says, I'd try to call them directly.

It's more of an issue when a manufacturer keeps the parts; I've just had an Omega returned from service in the UK, and a replaced crown was returned to me in a little plastic bag - very good.

As a follow up, Breitling has offered to replace the date wheel. However, I think I like the newer one better.
