Post subject:  Considering my First Breitling Purchase

My first post in this amazing forum...

My name is Paul from Adelaide, Australia.

I am considering buying a Navitimer World - I love the look of it as well as the ability to have two time zones.

I have a couple questions / concerns that all of you more experienced ling owners may have the answers to.

I am a little concerned about the feedback some users report with regards to the reliability of the Navitimer and World range... Obviously you don't hear all the postive reports...
But i don't want to fork out AUD$8400 (USD5750) and then have serious problems really early on.

Is there a definitive view on this range? What do people think?

With regards to servicing, how often does the watch need to be serviced and what is the estimated costs involved?

Whilst i expect to wear it daily, and know it has a minimum 'battery life' of 42 hours... if you consistently have to rewind it because of lack of use... does this effect the reliability of the watch?

Does the crystal on Breitling's scratch easy? I am an office worker, so with normal 'wear and tear' will the crystal or steel bracelet mark/scratch easily?

Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

And a Merry Christmas as well!

First off - welcome to the forums!

There have been some reports of the second time zone hand misbehaving on the Navi World, I don't have one so can't comment directly, but BReitling will certainly fix anything under warranty that is wrong and there are a great many very happy Navi World owners who have experienced no problems. The entire Navitimer range is not terribly waterproof, but it's fine for normal wear.

In terms of servicing, the short answer is that it will need servicing when it can't stay within COSC specs - difficult to put a specific timeframe but likely somewhere in the 5 year range. Cost will vary based on what needs doing, and does vary from country to country - plan on around US$500 as a rough average, but can certainly be more - a UK member paid GBP400 for a Bentley chronograph.

To help with the servicing period you should make sure that you run the chronograph on occasions - a day a month or so will be enough to prevent the oils from breaking down.

Obviously with daily wear there isn't a problem with it windoing down, but winding the watch doesn't cause any issues - you can't overwind an automatic watch and while it does create minimal wear on the winding mechanism it's really not an issue.

The crystal is a sapphire crystal and is extremely scratch resistant - it's almost as hard as diamond. It is possible to scratch the anti reflective costing, but you have to try really hard! Because the cases and bracelets are highly polished they do show minor scratches, but these are easily removed with an occasional buff with a polishing cloth - Cape Cod and Sunshine are the preferred ones.

Good luck with the search!

All good info from Roff there (it was my Bentley he mentioned there), but I'd also just like to add that I AM a Navi World owner...... in fact I've had two........ and I have never had a single problem with either. They're great watches.

Oh and welcome aboard!

Fisrt let me say welcome.

As with any product, when you hear the bad, it's really bad. I find with most people, they don't give their AD a chance to repair or replace before the customer starts the rant about how bad the watch is. If you have a problem with a product give your AD a chance to make good on the product, in this case breitling, and i find that if your not 100% satisfied with the fix they will replace the watch for you.

It happened to me with a product and i was generally pissed but i also gave the dealer a chance to make good. It's the time frame and inconveinience after you purchase something new that gets you to rant so bad about the product.

Just my thoughts

:welcome: to the forums, I think the questions you've asked have already been answered. Buy with confidence (always from an AD), should anything go wrong, they will indeed take care of you.

Welcome!

In the beginning of the year I chose between a Navi World and a Navi Montbrillant Legende. Both came out much better in flesh on my wrist than I had expected and the World really made an impression. The only thing is - the Legende made an even stronger impression. I had no problems at all with the readability so you should be fine there. And for the rest, Roffensian was quick with the responses.
