Georges Kern on Instagram:

"BASEL WORLD NEW PRODUCTS PREVIEW. And here comes the new Super Ocean! A dynamic sports watch for the air and the sea. Available in 48, 46, 44,42 and 36mm. A couple of new patented technical features will be explained over the next weeks. Super cool design with simplified graphics which proves that big sports watches can have style (please swipe). I am totally in love with these pieces! "

for those who said all Kern Era B are WAY! too small.

that 48mm bezel-locking SO is a beast, but really not bad at all

Available in 48, 46, 44, 42 and 36mm - is that all? Damn, I was really hoping for a 40.376mm version!

In all seriousness I think it's fantastic to see multiple sizes being made available. I can't tell you the amount of times I've really liked a watch only to find that it's either been too big or too small for me IRL. I've long wished that a few more companies would adopt this approach of covering a few more bases.

Couple of questions though (probably for Fred) - rubber or ceramic bezel inserts? And the movement? B17 I assume, or do they get the Tudor B20?

(Just noticed as well that the 48mm version has the lowest WR rating - something to do with the construction I guess? Not a criticism, just an observation.)

Damn! I love the all blue version without the hour numbers... Now I’ll have to agonize between that (SO III?) and the SOH II for my next Breitling purchase.

Also hoping it’s the B20 movement.

well.... actually all under embargo until tomorrow 2pm CET ;)
but Georges tends to charge ahead on his "private" ig feed and on fb.

"At the heart of each member of the new Superocean Collection is the Breitling Caliber 17, all Chronometer-certified"

SO 48 will have a ceramic bezel; DLC-coated titanium, soft-iron inner case, amagnetic, bezel lock, vented strap, 30bar/300m
(the last version to be available, Georges' June info seems very optimistic)

SO 46, DLC-coated steel, ratcheted steel bezel, 200bar/2000m, so dive away; black or blue dials

SO44, stainless steel, ratcheted steel bezel, 100bar/1000m, black or blue dials

SO42, stainless steel, ratcheted steel bezel, 50bar/500m, black, white or orange dials

SO36, stainless steel, ratcheted steel bezel, 20bar/200m, light blue or white dials

and yes, "wings & anchor" are here to stay on the "Professional" range and "Sports Watches" like the SO line

re B20: the supplier is TOTALLY incapable to keep up w/ the Breitling demand which has led to massive backorders w/ the SOH, so impossible to design high volume lines w/ this caliber.

So is the “ratcheted steel” like anodized aluminum or steel in rubber inserts?

anodized, no rubber afaik. haven't seen them in the metal, will report more from Basel

i like the fact they're ditching the 24 hour markers on the inner dial but I'd rather see the arabics that are on the current model. The strap on the 48mm version looks interesting.

I just noticed the return of the coral/orange dial that Georges posted on Linkedin and it looks pretty nice. I can't wait to see some real life shots of that dial.

Thanks for the additional info Fred - most appreciated.

I like the new cleaner-looking designs, and the size options are fantastic, but the additional info means that none are personally for me......and I’m absolutely fine with that!

I think the look of the 48mm is the definitely the pick of the bunch, but I’m not personally a fan of titanium or DLC so that one is out. Plus I think the size would be too large for me anyway.

And the non-ceramic bezels and B17 movement (and DLC on the 46) effectively cancels out those for me too.

That said, I think they’re very nice looking, and will undoubtedly appeal to a huge number of people (and especially those who still vocally mourn the loss of the wings from the rest of the range!), so I’m sure they’ll sell very well.

I am turning into a pretty big Kern fanboy right now! All smiles over here! That 46 SO III is a must!!!

Looks like 2019 is going to be filled with Breitling purchases for me! Do we think these will be available soon?

should be out this summer, but...
Stephane Linder, the former CEO of TAG Heuer is now COO at Breitling - and doing a wonderful job pushing production to meet demand, that isn’t the easiest job currently ;)
will try to update during Basel.

and, Altair, as I told Jim - wait until the end of this year to see the vision evolve...

no model line can be for everyone, but there’s respect for the Schneider years too, hope Kern can truly revive the icons of all eras.

They sold a lot of watches over those years, no reason to alienate a significant portion of the customer base.
