Over the years, I found myself not attracted to so called, "classic looking" or "timeless looking" watches, because such pieces are commonly generic looking, even though they might contain minor distinct features. It opens up to so many choices when you are looking for pieces like that. It is iconic looking pieces that I am attracted to, such that you know the model straight away when spotted one from far, and the iconic elements represent the spirit of brand.

When the Premiers were launched, some of them were beautiful, but I was not tempted to burn my wallet for any of them because they were just classic looking pieces and nothing really unique, until this came along. This is one true example of an iconic piece that portrays the spirit of the brand's current direction-understated with an unique identity. The green Premier is nice but I couldn't really relate that to Bentley. This piece relates that the classy and iconic elements of Bentley very well. To me it is the best model that has been launched so far in Kern's era. I have a feeling that the brand is going to progress better and better.

here's a photograph of the 18k....
really "getting it", I think.
elegantly luxurious, a great fit w/ the Bentley brand image finally.
dial is elm, not walnut as Georges wrote.

A good honest article, and I think he's spot on saying that this watch represents a real turnaround for the Breitling/Bentley partnership.

PS - As a previous owner of 3 Breitling for Bentley models, I was once quite a fan of the watches that, as the author slightly harshly puts it, were "large, garish, and contained little of the elegance and prestige that the four-wheeled Bentleys so proudly exuded" , but I think they were very much 'of their time'. This newer model certainly does exude a level of class and elegance that was missing before, and is very much in keeping with today's slightly more restrained aesthetic.

I think this really captures the Bentley spirit especially that wood trim they use in their cars.

That said though I don’t love this piece. It’s nice but for the money I’d rather get something else. I’m gonna guess the retail on this is north of 30k? Can someone confirm pricing

My personal opinion is that I am going to have to see the watch in the flesh to make a decision. I wonder what the reaction would have been if this watch had been released by Teddy Schneider, who in my opinion sometimes went "a little outside the box"!

Usually I shy away from any black/brown combination for watches or apparel. I feel they don't mix. Yet this piece is definitely making me reconsider the combo. Brown with slight touches of black looks amazing.

Really beautiful piece. Hard to fathom how this was even made to suit our taste. Can’t wait to see one in real life.

Finally had the chance to see these in the metal last weekend. For my money, these are the nicest Breitling issues of the Kern era. The wood dial, along with the black subdials and tach ring, are just a beautiful combination. The burled elm dial, in and of itself, is just stunning. The quilted leather strap looks great, as well. The gold case version is sublime, but this model is one that also looks fantastic in steel (which is sometimes tricky with a brown dial). Am I a fan of the "Bentley" imprint on the otherwise transparent case back? Well, no -- but, I'll forgive this particular feature, since, all in all, the dial is the star of the show.

Kudos to Breitling on this one! :lingsrock:

I saw the Burlwood dial last week as well and it does look nice. I was more surprised at seeing the green dial but tone honest, in the store was basically all black. I'd have loved to take it out in the Florida sun to see the green really pop, but I'm not a huge fan of the Bentley being written on the side of the case so it's a no go for me anyway. I did try on the blue dial on the bracelet and that was by far my favorite.

Fred (if you're out there) -- is it your understanding that each dial of the limited edition is unique (in other words, the pattern on each dial will be different)?

Thanks for any input on this.
