I don't know for certain, but I'd assume it was the solid gold models only that get that very cool larger box with the aircraft embossed (or in relief) on the inside of the lid. It was always the solid gold models that used to get the burr walnut version of the Bakelite box, plus those ones also used to get a genuine leather travel case while the Bakelite models made do with pleather.

With regards to boxes and their use, I'm kind of in between most of you guys. I don't tend to use them for display (although I do use them for watch storage at times), but I also really like it when the whole package has an air of class about it. It all just adds to the experience for me. Personally I love the new leather travel cases that Breitling are producing as they're so much better than the old pleather ones, but I'm not so much of a fan of the current cardboard outer. I actually still miss the Bakelite boxes a bit (well certainly the later ones that had decent hinges!).

Driver -- what time period are you talking about when you refer to the "pleather" travel cases? I know that, for at least the past six years, anyway, the travel cases have been genuine leather (which is stamped on the bottom of the case), and have been very nice. That being said, I prefer the more recent saddle leather versions to the previous black leather versions.

TBH Jim, I haven't bought a new Breitling in at least 6 years, but I had one of the very last Bakelite boxes - the largest one they ever made that came with the outer box with all the little planes on it. Like this one....

...and it definitely had a plastic-leather ("pleather") travel case.

Just to be clear, I’m not doubting you at all on that, Driver. I’m just curious about when the change may have taken place. Thanks for the info!

I agree with Jim that the newest style leather boxes are much nicer. I know the old ones were stamped genuine leather, but the quality of the new ones seems to be much better in my opinion.

No probs at all Jim, there was no offense taken. :D

So I’m guessing that maybe the very VERY last Bakelites also had genuine leather travel cases. Nice!

Hopefully I’ll get my hands on one of the new ones later this year as the new models are really getting me enthused about Breitling again!

They’re basically talking about breitlings history and how they’re re introducing it into their current watches. There was some talk about how they were innovators in the chrono flyback space.

This video is really shot for the Hong Kong market as they’re speaking Cantonese.
