I was just browsing Chrono24, Watchrecon and eBay while on a work conference call (it's a very dull call!), and it astonishes me how many pretty new (i.e. less than 10 years old) Breitlings, and other watches, are being sold without either box, or papers, or both. A lot of them look in fantastic condition so they've clearly been looked after, so I can't understand how they aren't complete. Do people honestly spend several thousand pounds on a watch and think, "What's all this paper rubbish doing in here? A manual? A COSC certificate? A warranty card? Huh? Why do I need to keep that? And why do I need a box? Let's chuck it all out!" I can't imagine they're all from dubious/grey sources, and nor can I imagine that removal firms the world over are incapable of ensuring that watch boxes reach their new destination (the amount of "Box and papers got lost in house move" comments I've seen is incredible! ![]() |

It is amazing that some people either do not care, or choose not to store the boxes and papers. If they only knew that it can add anywhere from approximately $100 to $500 to the overall value of the watch I think that they would exercise more caution! Some Rolex purists are willing to pay $500 or more for a watch that has it's stickers still intact! |

I actually hate the fancy boxes and such that take up so much space. I only look at them 2 times ever. When I first get the watch and when I package it all up if I ever sell it. And when I first get it, I barely even glance at it as I'm more interested in getting through all the ridiculous packaging and getting to the contents of the box. Because I have a tendency to sell my watches I keep everything knowing the value they have, but I wish I could trash it all because it takes up too much space in my closet. I can see people throwing the box away just because they may not want to store it, but you'd think they'd keep the papers. I know I have a place where I put all my boxes and the papers for all my watches are kept together. |
