Along with the new Premier (see the Premier thread for pics), I also finally got to try on the new 44mm version of the SOH. I'd tried the new 42mm and 46mm versions in London a while back, and my criticism of them was that the dial looks a bit washed out in certain lights, and sadly that's also true for the 44mm version as well. :( The black dial 44mm SOH was the one I was really looking forward to trying as the size is ideal for me and I also like the dial-coloured date wheel on this size too, so I was genuinely disappointed not to love it and I quickly discounted it.

However, at the same time, the salesperson had brought out the 44mm two-tone SOH as well, so almost as an after-thought I tried it on. And amazingly I loved it! Two-tone hasn't been my thing since I used to drool over the TT Crosswind in the Chronolog back in about 1999, and two-tone certainly wouldn't have even entered into my head as a good idea for a dive-watch, but for some reason it just worked for me! The dial looks darker somehow, and the rose gold elements are actually quite subtle in the flesh.

Not sure if I like it quite enough to buy it, and if I did it'd be on rubber, but this one was a genuinely nice surprise to me. Here's a couple of pics -

I know what you mean that the dials can seem washed out. This was the picture of the SOHC with the blue dial at the AD.

I think in natural light it would look great. Hopefully later this week I'll be able to take some pics of mine outside once it's delivered.

Gotta say, I think the two-tone is a great looking piece!

Pics of the incoming will have to wait until tomorrow, the bracelet had to be ordered so I'm expecting the package to arrive tomorrow.

Are the markings on the bezel just some silver/gold paint over ceramic? Is it durable?

Totally with you on the washed out dials Driver. I was rather distraught as one of the hallmarks of Breitling's legendary quality to me was their fantastic AR coated ultra high quality sapphire crystals and their crisp vibrant dials. I am not sure what's going on, as Breitling produces their own dials and should have consistent quality?

I was relieved to discover that their straps are just as stunning as ever though.

No, they're not painted on. It's similar to what is on my SubC.

re "washed out dials" - the blue dials (the Bentley green even more) NEED natural light.

the blue changes hues in different lighting conditions (actually something I love), here's the "washed out blue" in daylight:

That looks totally different to the one I tried on under the artificial light of an AD -

While it undoubtedly looks MUCH nicer in natural light, I still think the panda colourway is 100% the way to go with this watch.

Still waiting on FedEx for some real life shots of the SOHC. I was told yesterday by noon, then today by noon, and now who knows...

I hate when that happens! So hard to tamp down the anticipation, isn’t it?

Yeah, it's the worst. The tracking page showed the truck a block away about 2 hours ago and now it's not to be found. I'm guessing I'm not getting it today.

1 block away?!?! I would have been running down the street after the truck :)
